Make sure you sign the register book cause that will be classed as
you turning up to a club event (for the club rego )

What good is it to have a car on club plates thru a club if the person with the car never turns up to anything in the car? To me this is glaringly obvious as to why they want the rego  CheersAaron

Yes but if i was to re-join the club, how exactly am i expected to attend meetings when i am 2000klms away? If i pay my membership fees, why cant i enjoy the same benefits as the other local members?

This was the main reason why i didnt renew my membership a few years ago, i was a paying member for a few years while i was restoring my car, then when my car was finished i contacted the MOCQ to apply for club rego and was given an ear bashing by some old bloke, asking me why should i benefit from club rego when i would never attend a meeting........

I couldnt believe that response.... I had been a member for a couple of years, paid my money, enjoyed reading the little MOCQ book every month or so..... Then i wanted to take advantage of the club rego and was basically told to get stuffed.......

meeting starts at 730pm. May be a bit muddled up as we have never been to this venue and not sure if chairs etc are set out for us, but should be a good night. As for the club rego issue, I was not aware of this being a problem, and definitely would be for those from FNQ. I will address this at the next committee meeting and see what can be done to prevent this from occuring again.

I can see your point mate, but your case is different to what I am commenting on. Club rego is a very difficult thing to control, and I feel sorry for anyone having to try and police it. As suggested in a different post, the way you can work around your issue is to have a sub branch in your local area, because technically you would have to drive down to brisbane to attend any events to use your car. I am unsure how it works in QLD but the RTA in NSW will only allow you to use your car for testing purposes or to attend events that are either published in the club magazine or listed in the clubs DAY BOOK.
Yes, the way you were told by the old bloke is out of order, but there is still truth to his comments on the legallity of your having club plates thru the Mini club. You would be better in my opinion having your car listed on club plates thru a local club where you live and having a 2nd listing on the mini club listed on the rego.
As for the 12 month thing, if you had been a member, I am sure the mini club would happilly wave the 12 month waiting period for you. But as I am not a member or on committee of the qld club i can't be sure of what they will do. Goodluck with it anyway.
If the rules for club rego are different in QLD please post the details here as I for one would be interested to see the differences in polices between states.

Cheers
Aaron

I am pretty sure that the way the club rego works up here is that
you can test drive your car within a 15km radius of the address on
the rego ,drive it to anywhere (within reason ) when getting repairs
or quote on work for the car and on any club run that the club you are
in goes on or the club is invited to by another club

that sums it up really

Yeah thats about it. 15klm radius will basically get me anywhere in Cairns. And thats as far as i take my car anyways...

T`was a good night, excellent atmosphere, Matt from BMW did a top job... & good to put some names to some internet faces (or vice versa)

As a side note, on the Club pulling out from CAMS, --->as i said earlier--->, there was a big issue of a lack of interest of members not being directly involved with CAMS racing events (as in not actually racing their minis in CAMS events) & hence the cost was the main reason there,,, i failed to mention that the cost was the issue behind the "Lack of interest" thing (thought i was quite obvious tho) & why should the club pay bundles of money to CAMS for affiliation & then pay again (over & over) every single event they plan, even if it`s just a run to have a BBQ somewhere (yes that`s right, as a CAMS affiliated club, every single event must be tabled & permit fees paid to secure insurance coverage) so hence the club commitee decided to opt for alternative insurance coverage which was far more cost effective. Very sensible in my books & also , ontop of all that, most of the guys who actually do race are in other racing clubs anyways

so,,, just thought i`d enlighten everyone on that subject (i was nudged about it so that all who questioned were informed of the reasons) :-)

--> the resons for leaving CAMS was a lack of interest & simply Cost related.

.see you all at the next meeting :-) word on the street is that there will be a very interesting car on show :-)

So the club is gettin cosy with the MG Car Club, which IS CAMS affiliated and owns Mt Cotton hill climb circuit. MOCQ people may have a way to run in some events with that link. Nice going new MOCQ committee!

AND they talked about some runs where cars that want to go below the speed limit are encouraged to depart early (ie discouraged from showing up). Nice one.

Thought last night was great, first meeting, and was a little bummed it ended so soon, but I suppose we had to let matt (MINI matt) close up the room for the night!

he said next time he'll get some catering on, with the resturant open for us etc.

Sounds like a great idea, can make it a more social evening, maybe start it a little earlier?

Was good to catch up with a few folks from here, and some that i'd never talked to before.

I'm stoked!

Cheers

matt
