Hi,

I'm trying to identify the right speedo that should be in my 68 deluxe.

Can anyone out there who has a pic post it up, and also note if it has convex glass or flat glass!

Cheers

matt

When I get home I can take some pictures of both my 65 Deluxe speedo and my Mini K speedo, a 68 Deluxe will be different to both though.

I was going to say I can get a pic from my 68 van , but then checked and what I rememberred as a mini K type dash was actually an early cooper s type dash so not sure if it's the original speedo or if it came from a donor car . To me the speedo looks right for the mini but not 100% sure . It's got slightly convex glass .

Thanks everyone, keep them coming! There has been discussions on cooper / S speedos before, but no one seems to have bothered with the K or deluxes before.

I'll have to get some photos of my existing speedo and post them up too!

Cheers

Matt

That speedo looks right for a K, no indicator light or oil warning light. The binnacle however is early Cooper S (<1966?) as it doesn't have the holes for the blinker lights. Off the top of my head the RPM looks right for a 3.6 diff.

A 68 Deluxe speedo should be 90mph, and I assume have a warning light for the oil pressure (but not a filter light I believe, maybe wrong) and should have a single warning light for the indicators. I think!

My 1965 Deluxe speedo is 95mph, and has two warning lights for oil pressure and oil filter, but no light for the indicator as it was originally on the indicator stalk.

here is my speedo;

Image

It is MPH & KMH, it goes to 90MPH but marked to 100MPH, it has lots of lights on the face of it.

Anyone?

Hah, you can see me in the reflection! Bad pic from the phone camera sorry.

It originally had a flat glass, but when I had the glass out to clean it, I changed it to a convex class as I liked it better!

Anyone else got one like this?

Matt

It looks correct to me, don't know about the kph though I've only seen them with the kph added later (common to find them with stickers). It's marked to 95mph like the earlier Deluxe, and it has the extra light for the indicator, which the earlier ones didn't have.

I don't believe a Mini K should have a speedo like that, as they have a seperate oil gauge and the indicator lights are on the binnacle. My Mini K speedo only has Ignition and High Beam lights. Also, a Mini K will be calibrated for a different diff ratio (has the calibration written on the face)

Here's a 65 Deluxe speedo. Please excuse the reflection, that picture has to be from 6 years ago at least, before I knew how to wield a camera (come to think of it I still don't :D)
Note the 50 is slightly off centre, and no indicator warning light. You'll also note I have a nice roof lining.....

:? :? :? My '67 Deluxe Speedo doesn't look like any of those. I do know that it has been replaced at some stage but I thought it was replaced with another Deluxe one. I'll post pics at a later date.......if I remember.

No Deluxe or K came from the factory with a KPH speedo.
KPH was introduced in 1972/3.
Mokes came with them though.

Don't Moke KPH Speedos have the KPH as the main reading, rather than in the centre like on that pic?
