Hello,

I am sure this has been discussed a number of times, but I am looking at upgrading the drum brakes on my mini 850 to disc.

I have heard a lot of talk about using the cheaper metro hubs and how it can effect the camber, and you are better off getting mini hubs (either from 7.5" or 8.4" setup).

Now the question, how can I tell what a set of hubs have come off ?
i.e. anyway of telling a set of metro hubs from a mini set (either 7.5" or 8.4")

cheers

Ashley

Metro hubs are like having 2 space saver tyres on the back of your car.
They'll do the job, but aren't what is meant to be there, and not the safest option
for handling. :D

Mini hubs have grease nipples on the ball joints, metro ones don't to the best of my knowledge. :D

Metro ones have balljoints that looks totally different to the Mini ones, they screw in as an assembly.

I really doubt metro hubs are as unsafe a using space saver tyres. Thats the same as saying single leading shoe drums are more safe than Honda discs.
As far as the ball joints are concerned, imo they are better because they have no shims to adjust and they just screw on.

ashley, its much of a muchness. for a totally recondition/rebuilt set of metro hubs (new bearings, ball joints)with rover calipers/discs(new seals, pads) and adjustable lower control arms i paid about 1000 all up.
I think steve from brikworks sells reco rover sets for about 850. brand new cooper S set ups are about 1250.

its all the same in the end. metro hubs will be cheaper, but you will need adjustable lower arms and a good set (not cheapies like mine) will cost you around $400. due to their country of origin they will be rusted to crap and need a total rebuild which really does suck.
All these topics have been delt with in meticulous detail. just do some searches and make your own decision. regardless of what you choose it will be a lot bloody safer than what you have at the moment.

It was a metaphor. Not a comparison.

From where..? :? Everywhere I've seen new S setups advertised in Australia, they're listed at $1800. They're about $1200 in the UK, but then you've got to add freight, etc. I don't mean to be skeptical - if you're right, I'll buy from the mob you're talking about! :D But I haven't seen them that cheap.

Well actually, its a simile. I bet when you were taught the difference you would never actually need to know it. a simile states that A is like B, a metaphor states that A is B or substitutes B for A.

Thanks for correcting. I actually wrote simile first, then 5 minutes later edited the message to make it metaphore. After reading the definition of each, I was going to change it back again later, but got distracted. :D
