Here you go......was cleaning the dash on my clubby the other day and the binacle surrounding the speedo was loose......gave it a little 'jiggle' and it popped straight out. Not that this is a problem because I could get all of the crap and grime out of all the little 'crooks and nannies'. Just pushed it back into place but now the speedo wont light up when the head lights are on. I've possibly just broken a bit of the printed circuit, but how the hell do I get the black front part of the dash cover off?? :?

Not shure i understand proply but... On each side of you dash there is some screw that hold the dash onto the metal frame. Undo those and you can them remove the entire speedo thingy. The black front thing is hold by clip, quite easy to undo and redo. All this is true if you have the same dash as i have.

Allright......done...fixed, but in the process of fixing the 'no light behind the speedo' I've managed to bugger up the speedo cable somehow because the speedo doesn't work now

I suppose I've managed to pull the inner cable out of the drive down in the gear box or have failed to put it back in to the back of the speedo properly.

Oh well, pull it apart again - that's what owning a mini is all about isn't it......these cars of ours certainly keep us on our toes.

i have the same prob sometimes. with mine thou the speedo lights up with side lights and when i click over to headlights the speedo goes off. then i nudge it back a bit and then back to headlights and it comes on again. (this only happens when change to headlighst quikly with mine)

i'm guessing with mine it is corosion on the copper plate in the light switch.

this is my experience not sure if it is the same as yours.

check if lights up when side lights on. were you cleaning around light switch? may be a problem there instead?

edit: just read post before mine
