i have a set of rims that my brother bought ages ago, but how do i find out the sizes of them

You need two thing 1st the radius: from top to buttom it should give you in inch 10,12,13 etc. After that you measure the width. Looking at your well it should give you something 13x6, in inch.

This is in no way accurate whatsoever, but may be enough to get started:

Measure the overall diameter in inches, subtract 1, round off and there you go.
For width, measure overall and subtract 1/2 inch, and round off.

The exact place to measure is where the bead for the tyre mounts to. :D
