OK all,
I've found today the Smiths electronic tacho in Barney is not reading consistently with the Pulsar electronic dizzy.
I saw 7000 without trying and it's a stocko 998 Clubby motor. No, I didn't believe it.. :P
Any known wiring mods, or is it a POS and I should flog it and buy something that works? 8)

Brad, I know a 998 and 7000 rpm when I see & hear them. :P
No, it's way off. 3000 rpm in 4th gear with 3.4 or 3.6 diff is NOT 60KMH...
It was reading funny on the Canberra run too, with the old 90MPH speedo.
Just not consistent. Maybe the tacho is a dud, I dunno. Did Lucas own Smiths?? :x

0-8000 rpm, but I think it's the later one, will have a look in the morning.

Not sure about the smiths one, but I know the clubbie one worked okay in my car with electronic ignition (not the pulsar dizzy tho)

as for smiths everyone I know likes there work, my grand father actually worked in the factory and offices for smiths gauges. You can still buy guages by companies that are from the same "Family" as smiths, such as green gauges for custom work. and CAI which provides gauges to aston martin, lotus and rolls royce. A bit of history here

I think the smiths 0-8000 that I bought is busted. I tried it when I first bought it with the lucas dizzy -- no good. Tried it the other day with the wiring you suggested - no good. Tried it on my mates EH and it didn't read.

Interestingly, he has a funky timing light that displays RPM, dwell, voltage.... when we were timing my car we couldn't get any reading for the rpm and dwell but it works fine on his engine.

Yeah Makka it's electronic, not points- but it works OK with Clubbie Smiths tachos, my Fiat one, and various others I've put these dizzys into.
Maybe I've just got a dud Smiths tacho or a bad connection...
