Miners had a pretty good deal (most of the time) and certainly are well renumerated. There was a radio story on the ABC that I listened to while driving. It was about a regional coal mine that had a number of their truck drivers (those huge big truck things) caark it with heart attacks over the last year. This included some who died at the wheel of their truck things.

An analysis showed that they basically drove their trucks around in circles around the mine for 12 hour shift. Picked up the coal from the coal face loading and took it to the coal conveyor belt and then repeated the loop again.

During the day they faced a number of stress factors such as dehydration, inactivity etc. They also drank anything up to six litres of Coke a day. Their lunchrooms had pie warmers with free meat pies and the men ate anything from one to six pies every four hours or so. Lots of fat, slat and not much nutrition not to mention the high sugar intakes.

The mine has completely revised its drivers habits as a result of these deaths and the drivers fluid intake and eating habits. The pies are gone replaced with healthy food (free of course) and unlimited free bottles of bottled water.

Coke does not rot your innards but it does lots of other damage when drunk copiously as a fluid replacement on top of other bad eating habits.

By the way - acid to alkaline is on a scale of 1 to 14 with seven being neutral. (in genral terms)

The most acid is the lowest value 1 and it becomes less acid as the number value rises until seven where it is neither acid or alkaline - it is simply neutral. As the values rise the substance becomes more alkaline to the value of 14 which is as highly corrosive as acid.

The human stomach generally has a value of about two which is a fairly acid state. It is much more acid than Coke (its Coca-Cola we are talking about) and the acidity that coke has is just absorbed by the stomach.

Of far greater worry is the sugar contained in coke and the various "secret" refreshing substances which also work as a stimulant. A glass (or can) of coke is okay - litres of the stuff daily is not !!!

Speedy - that's amazing - you should buy another set at a swap meet for $5 and clean them up and sell them on eBay for $80.

Maybe that's all that Mick's Cooper needs, a truck full of the stuff that Al carts around.

Al

Not bagging coke per se - just reporting on the health of a group of people who drink gallons of the stuff with little or no other fluid (except beer) and with very little other of the essential food pyramid every day.

I enjoy coke too but not gallons of it a day.

I would Al, but I'm not sure about what might be left once I'm done soaking it....it might all fit in a shopping bag.

However....as a gratious donation towards the refurbishment of said mini, it would help keep the refursher cool, refreshed and energised......

Every now and then I walk up to the roof and stick a new hole in it for fun.
