Hi there,
I have a 4 synchro remote change box, with a Magic wand gear lever, fitted to my Moke, I think the motor was originally in a Van?
The problem i have is that the gear change is very loose, and I have excess play in the selector rod that comes out from the top of the diff housing.
I removed the bottom cover and found that the lever is worn on the ball where it fits into the locating pad, and is almost worn into a circle.
The question I have is, is it possible to get new bushes for the selector rod, and how do I remove the old one?, and would it be possible to weld the damage on the lever and re-surface it?
Or does anyone have a servicable lever they do not want anymore?
Any help appreciated!!

Location: Out in the shed cleaning up my own mess.
The bronze bushes for the selector shaft are still available I think (#2A3502, 2 of,) but not sure about building up the shaft with weld beads. I think the metal would be to soft to take the wear.

O.k thanks for that, but how do I remove the old bushes, and what would you suggest regarding the lever??

Obviuosly, you will need to remove the engine/bear box and then the shaft. The bushes are a press fit in the housing and easily removed with a drift and BFH.

The bushes are available but they are too slack on even a new shaft, I made my own bushes from LG2 bronze bar.
Bushes wear more than the shaft does. If shaft is worn I go find a better one. :wink:
Grease it well, it's a bastard to get a gun onto once it's in the car.

Thanks Doc,
What is your opinion on the gear lever, do you think it would be o.k to repair the wear with weld, or do you think I should try to find a better one?
