good idea thanks HP

ok another semi update since nothing too big has happend since im stil waiting for queensland transport to contact me :(.

Ive removed the engine and its up for sale on ebay ( http://cgi.ebay.com.au/998cc-4-stroke-m ... dZViewItem ) so ill take whatever i can get for it. I have also removed all of the interior and the boot plus the twin tanks so now all i have is the rear subframe with brakes and wheels (so i can lift the front and roll the shell around)

A few pictures:

Appologies for the bad quality since i was to lazy to get the camera i had to use my phone

The interior with doors removed

Mini engine ad starlet engine side by side, they are pretty much the same size

And the empty bay

Next up will be completely stripping the paint inside and out and chucking it on a trailer to send to my uncle who owns a paint shop so i get to do most of it myself

cheers, goffy

Work has been going slow due to spending my money on a daily driver since this project is taking so long i got a 1990 nissan pintara which was good for its price...

anyway back to the mini. Ive started to strip the pain from the rear panel as well as prep the other main rust areas in the mini plus some cleaning of the front subframe

Any ideas how to replace all the rust?

Weld in new sections is the only answer. That bit above the door looks bad

Preferably cut bits off a donor car, otherwise you will have to fold up some replacement sections.

ok mini rant time.....

here is the story so far

About 3 or 4 months ago i posted in my conversion proposal to queensland transport and since im doing a "specific modification", where im putting the engien in the back, i had to type up a proposal including detailed drawings and sketches of what i will be doing to the mini, which i did, so i sent that off with my report and filled in all the forms and had to post it to the modifications section of the department. So after 3 months of not hearing from them i called up the mods section and asked where the proposal was and if they'd looked at it since i have to "pay a small fee for them to read it" also, and they told me i have to talk to such and such the engineer but he wasnt in today soooooooo i called back the next day..and teh next...and the next..and the next 18 days every day at different times and he was either not there or had gone home early.

so my ranting over what should i do? i called up again today and left a msg which ive done a few times before but he never calls back and the guy that answered the phone the first tiem looked up onthe computer and said my proposal was in the engineers office so he's definately recieved it..the bummer is i cant complain because he is the only one who can give me the go ahead from the transport department and if i make him angry he probably wont pass it then i cant get it registered and i cant just go ahead and start teh conversion because if he finds a fault in my desing it won get registered so ive gotten to the point where im stuck in the conversion and cant do anythign and its just wasting time where i want to get out to the garage and start on the mini!!!!

very very frustrating... does anybody have and ideas of what i should do? not sure about nsw but the RTA has to be better organised than this?

cheers

Find where he works (Boundary St Spring Hill probably). Take him to the pub for lunch and talk it over. (Don't go to one of the many gay bars near there).

He works for the govt. he gets paid average money and is bored. He probably never gets the corporate lunches that his uni buddies who work in private industry get so he has a chip. Buy the poor ning nong a beer and you'll be his best mate.

Before you buy a second round, ask what he drives. If it is a Camry or Avalon or some other cardigan, you're crap out of luck and wasted your beer money on a car hater who just doesn't want you ever to have fun.

Goffy,

Good on you mate for having a dig.

Keep going, dont stop!

Hopefully the ginger-beer from the Dept. Transport will ring back with the OK.

I take my hat off to you for trying it on, instead of just talking about it.

Regards,
Tricky

Yee Haa.

You little beauty!

To everyone who is reading this thread - this is what perserverance and dedication gets you - an end result in your favour!!!

Well done Goffy, well done indeed. So tell us, in your document, what exactly did you propose to do with your conversion and how did you propose to do it??

Never give up!!

Cheers,

:D indeed tricky. Well the main design im using is similar to the zcars vtec kit with a bit of kimini (www.kimini.com) frame thrown in. I designed it so that i dont need a full rollcage, since i was unsure about the law regarding the door bars, and a lot of major bracing so that my rear window doesnt pop out when i turn a corner.

Basically it'll look like a mix between these designs (hopefully):

(piccys from www.theminiforum.co.uk, www.kimini.com, www.twinenginemini.co.uk)
