story?

my parents once spat about 4 inches of exhaust pipe on our Sunshine at the car behind while travelling from Brisbane to Nambucca. the noise it was making when it arrived were amusing. sounded like a Cessna in trouble!

I've been having problems with the LCB extractors coming appart at the Y piece. Fallen off a few times. Over in Adelaide the rear mounts broke, so had to fix with fence wire (thats what Will is talkin about).

Problem should be fixed now. Took it to a different zorst place (the guys at Midas in Geelong are champs!) and they put a flexy thing just after the extractor Y piece.

ive had the rear mount break on mine a lot of times. end up with that lovely scraping sound, followed by having to wire a hot muffler up. not a pleasant job.

first happened when i had girls in the car, one of which i quite liked.

hehe... yesterday I saw a guy in a convertable VW who had 3 chicks in the car. He was under the bonnet (front bonnet, or boot) tapping the fuel tank. Now thats embarassing!

Ive already talked to willy about mufflers on Saturday..... but was wondering whether other people here have had the same results as I have.....

Back in 1996(??) I fitted a 2 inch bore "Super Turbo Muffler" to my 1100cc.... it sounded good, a deep note and not too loud..... and i didnt notice any major loss or gain in power. My guess is that it would create a little bit of back pressure, which would counter-act the increase in bore size.

This is the muffler i recommended to willy, but he doesnt like the thought of back pressure.

From what ive learnt, back pressure can help generate more torque......... where as less back pressure helps generate more power, while reducing torque. I have not read this in any books yet, so I hope I am right..... correct me if im wrong please!!!

Since he is more of a city (and hills) driver, and possibly carrying a bit of added weight (subs, girls maybe), i thought he would be better off trying to extract more torque :?

Not as far as i knew. the most efficient muffler from a gas flow perspective is no muffler at all. any "back pressure" is resistance to the gas flow that the engine must overcome by pumping the exhaust gas out. if you must have a muffler (laws  ) then the more gas it flows the better.

if you are talking about the scavenging effect of having the primaries the correct length so that the exhaust pulses are correctly timed to draw the next cylinders exhaust pulse along.......... :D

As far as I know I went 200m to the Bunnings to get some wire, rather than ripping the fence at the servo appart. When I got back, it was done for me, who's to complain about that?!

sure run a straight through if you want burnt vaulves
for a mini the perfect size is 1.75" pipe ask any mini tuner and they will say the same thing unless you are running a turbo
i would sugest the resonator and a hiflow turbo mufler
dont run just a resonator i did this on my first mini, the drone of the engine on long trips was horrible. i got pulled over by the cops all the time and i droped two exhoust vaulves
makka

Racers run 2" systems straight thru and they don't burn valves. But, some valves are better than others. I just run race S/S ones... :P
