Hi

I have a fuel seeping problem from BOTH fuel bowls in my twin SU setup. It is weeping out between the bowl and the lid, gaskets are old but look ok. Had lots of smoke fill the car earlier (petrol on the extractors), so don't want to drive it until I fix it.

We are down in brisbane trying to get to the mini muster tomorrow!

The needle and seats seem fine, pressure is set at 2.5 PSI with a filter king regulator.

How do I adjust the pressure with this type of regulator (filter and reg in one)? Don't have any instructions.

Please help!

Any other suggestions as to why fuel is coming out BOTH fuel bowl lids?
(twin 1.25 SU's)

Have you tried the normal tapping the top of the float bowls...
doesn't explain why both are leaking though.

I have pulled them apart and cleaned them out, checked the needles and seats, all seem ok.

The strange thing is they are both doing it.

Ideas?

Did you run the fuel tank near empty...
maybe picked up some crap... easiest thing to block up is the needle and seat

Didn't run it under half way for last four fills. It is a filter king filter and pressure regulator so it should stop the crap?

Doesn't 'weep' if fuel pump on but motor off, starts to 'weep' straight after.

Too high voltage to pump while engine running.
Wrong float bowl or float level setting.
no overflows are blocked....

Normally a regulator will have a screw fitting with a lock nut(similar type thing to your idle screw).
this will adjust the pressure to your carb

Float levels are fine, the level sits about 12mm from the top of the bowl when the fuel flow is cut off by the needle and seat valve.

This is measured with the float in the bowl. This means the fuel in the fuel bowl is nowhere near the gasket which is 'weeping' petrol.

I think I need new gaskets, but what else can I do?

unless the gaskets are split, that's not your problem

No, not split. Hard though. Any other ideas? Doesn't seem to be fuel being forced out there, the breather holes in the lids are fine too.

Pump is an SU electric fuel pump, voltage is supposed to be 12V.

What do you think it might be?

An Su fuel pump shouldn't need a regulator...
maybe try bypass it to eliminate that as a problem.

Hi Steve, thanks again for your help.

The regulator wasn't the problem, it was purely and simply the gaskets on top of the fuel bowls. Changed to new gaskets, with a change to the new solid plastic float to minimise frothing and splashing (others were loose a s a goose) and no more weeping!

I always use 2 gaskets on the fuel bowls as this also happened to me. Got the advice from a member in the club down here and worked a treat.
