Gday all,
I am having a problem with my fuel and temp gauges on my Mini K. It has the 3 gauge cluster with the temp and oil gauges. The fuel and temp gauges read fine when the car is idling but when I drive the car the 2 gauges read lower and then if I stop they slowly go back to normal. I know a few people will tell me to get Wombats aftermarket stabilizer. I have already done this and it is working well. I have driven with a volt meter hooked up to the output and it reads a steady 9.9 volts all the time. I was wondering if anyone has had this problem and been able to fix it easily.

Buy a new pne, fit it, job done

Thanks Matt but I have replaced the unit with the one that Wombat makes and sells. As I said the output to the 2 gauges is a steady 9.9 volts. I have also tried taking off the temp gauge and just having the fuel gauge hooked up and also vice-versa, still the same.

Well it might sound obvious but its normal for the temp gauge to display a lower temperature whilst moving because of the increased airflow through the cooling system, then when you stop it warms up again. The petrol gauge moves about a bit as well due to the shifting of petrol while driving (especialy so if twin tanks are fitted).

Yea I suppose it could be the air temp especially with our cold Canberra mornings, but I have never seen it move this much and the fuel gauge seems to go at the same rate and about the same amount. Both decrease about 1/4 of the total sweep of the needle. If it was the petrol sloshing around it would most likely go up and down, it is pretty stable at the down reading. Thanks again Mike, it gives me a few things to check out, if I fill both tanks right to the top, maybe there wont be enough room for the fuel to move around so much.
