Hello there, bought a 78 clubman, wondering if any of you clever folk can help us on tech stuff.
It has 13" wheels which make it bump steer, is there anything to calm this down besides putting on 10" or 12" wheels.
It is also insanely loud, what are the best sound damping products, at the moment it has only interior carpet with the thin bitumen layer between the felt underlay, and moulded carpet without any underlay on the roof instead of a roof lining. It has nothing under the bonnet or fire wall and nothing in the boot which obviously doesn't help and we are hoping to find out some suggestions / products before we start. We also changed the exhaust bore (smaller) and muffler which comes straight out the middle/back of the car. the problem now is we dont have a clue what we are doing and before the little power we have left vanishes I thought it was probably a good time to ask ideas from people who have done it all before.

Appreciate any information Cheers - Graham

G'day happyg and welcome to Ausmini..

I am using the double layered bitumen underlay under the carpet as well as the paint on sound proofing goo..

You can buy good stick on sound proofing from Autobarn, either the standard type or the fireproof type.. Works well.

Depending on the size of your motor, a good straight through exhaust works well. I run a 2" system on my LS..

Can't help you with the bump steer problem..

I fitted the following to my clubman and reduce the noise levels quite well and also help kept the warm in ad the cold weather out.

Regarding bump steer, a front adjustable suspension setup with 3-4 degrees of front castor should help lessen the impact of bump steer, so i heard... well I don't get any at 3.5 degrees...

in regards to sound deadening, the roof is by far the most important panel here, remove the carpet and get hold of some dynamat (expensive) or something else and cover the entire roof, then stick your carpet back on or put some new headlining in..

i used kwik grip for this which was a little messy but very effective and keeping it stuck on the roof.
