Thanks 9YaTaH it does make sense. At the end of the day I do not want a $30k MINI that will defeat the purpose.
Yes the appeal is the interior really, swap you say, sounds like a plan.

Thanks,
Jamie

Jamie...not so much swap as buy a front cut from Brickworx in SA for a bunch of Rover mini bits and source all the other stuff from places like Newton Commercial in the UK etc etc its a huge market out there for classic Mini parts.

As a for instance, in the USA I went for a drive in a Mini that has never ever been a Mini  The fella bought a brand new Heritage shell, got hold of a 1963 wiper motor (they are dated) and ended up registering a fantastic "1963" Mini assembled from components mostly imported from the UK.

Hi all,

My name is Ian and i'm from Wollongong

I own a 78 Clubman... since last month. Blue with white roof, body in good cond but the engine is a little tired (i believe it's an 1100) or possibly very upset (the jury is still out).

I have had 'normal' cars for the last 10 or so years with the exception of my first car, a 73 Superbug.

Am bringing to ausmini a passion for mini's and an 'L' plate to hang around the mechanicals.... still, time will surely fix the 'L' state for mechanicals...

I've been reading a lot of the old Mini chat (there is A LOT) and it sure is a wealth of information. Well done to all for making this forum what it is...

Hi Ian, I hope that you enjoy your time on ausmini.

There are lots of friendly folk around here and don't be afraid to ask a question, there should be someone on here that can help you out.

If your wondering about the engine size in your car you can post the prefix (don't post the actual engine number) in Mini Chat and some one can tell you what it was originally.

Cheers, Nick

Hey , another Ian , soon we'll outnumber the rest of the mere mortals here :D :D :D . Welcome and hopefully we can help you with whatever drama's your mini throws at you , and then in time you'll be able to help the newer members . As Nick said , post the engine number prefix and we can tell you what it is , not the entire number but the first one or two numbers and the letters after it (8AMUH , 9YaTaH , 10YaTaH 1204 and all the other variations ...).

Thanks for the welcome. Re engine size...the RTA says the engine is a 998 but the engine number starts with 1015 which is an 1100. Am currently having the head gasket replaced (VRS kit) and inlet valve needed to be replaced. It turns out that it was a cooper inlet valve (a tad bigger apparently? - it didn't match the 998/1098 'standard' inlet valve). I do question if when the engine was last 'done' (about 4/5 years ago) if anything was done to 'improve' it.

Still, bit of a moot point until I confirm if the engine is actually working or not... having a mini friendly mechanic trying the VRS kit/spending just a few hours looking at it/he's fairly optimistic. This will, if the planets are aligned, give it a bit more life until the equation(engine) gets more 'interesting/challenging'.

I realise this is an 'introduce yourself topic' so I won't go on....

Hi,

I've got an English Built Austin 850. I don't know what year it is. It used to be white but I've repainted it yellow with a black roof and bonnet stripes. I'm still rebuilding it but have a warm clubman GT engine with Mark 1 Cooper S head which I am fitting.

Cheers,
Simon
