Hey all, well... I drove the Brick to the City today, got as far as chatswood......
Engine temp well over 114', dropped a cylinder... :(
So, its head gasket. - no questions (hey, when you have a turbo, you get to know what a Head-gasket blow feels like!!)

Gafmo is bringing me a VRS Set tomorrow, and I've packed...

Tension Wrench
2 Shifters (small and medium)
Sockets (9/16, 13mm and 7/16)
Long and short extensions
Uni-Joint
Philips head screw-driver
Short Slot-screw-driver
medial slot screw-driver
Wire Brush
Can of Castrol Corrosion inhibitor
lots of torn up sheet
2-litre bottle for water (probably take another too........)
Spare AF780 Composite Head-Gasket (if its the same as Gaf's then i'll fit 2 to lower compression... done it before...)

I'll be doing this job in the basement of my city office ( ) so I'll have to have as close to the "right" toolbox as possible.... have i forgotten anything obvious ?

J

Cheers

a 5/8 socket or spanner, you will need to get at the rockers, so the rocker cover will have to come off.

Cheers

Hopefully you will have better results with the ACL 998 gasket than those current small bore copper ones. Madmat reckons they are a POS too, he likes the ACLs.

Ok, its done, home and happy ....

Started about 12:45, after meeting Gaf (Thanks again, - How did the interview go ?)
Didnt stop until i realised.. NO SCRAPER !!
And of course the gasket stuck like a Mofo to the head...... oh well, nothing a screwdriver and a steady hand didnt fix !

GOt back on the road about 3.. and drove through the bumper-to-bumper traffic home....
Temp needle crept towards 93' (82 is normal on mine..) and the traffic would move again.... lucky!

Anyway, got it home, changed the oil / filter / water and its all happy again...
Very little blow-by (about the same as it was...), temps are normal and oil pressure is actually up a bit (probably the fresh oil)

Anyway, big thanks to all for re-affirming my belief that the Mini crowd are the best people in the world.. ever !
Cheers all
J
