Hi all,

After my trip to Hay, the clubby seems to have lost a bit of power down low.

When you rev it, it goes really well, just as good, if not better than before. however down low, you really need to get the revs up to get it going well. It is running an RE13 so it will be a little lacking from the word go, but there has been a change.

Could it be the timing?

all the points, plugs and fuel are fine.

I just put it down to it being a 998...

granted i am a paranoid individual.

Obviously you're not paranoid enough - you let a Verada owner drive your car!!!

Sounds like an ignition timing issue, could be cam timing as well. Is it a new timing chain? simplex or duplex?

Check the cam timing. Also check the ignition timing, both static and with a timing light. what dizzy?

Its a double row timing chain, vernier adjustable.

The cam timing etc is all fine, it was built and run in on the Dyno and all was fine there.

Its Lucas Dizzy from the 1100, but the advance curve has been modified.

The Shaft of the dizzy where the rotor button sits popped out a little bit when i took
the rotor button off. I pushed it back in. it was only out by about 5mm. could this mean anything?

check the igniton timing, that will tell you iif the shaft moving was an issue.
Sounds klike ignition timing to me,

get a good stroboscopic timing light and have at it!

Just a quick check of the carby oil might do some good.

I've had issues with my car and low down power (well low throttle power more like) due to thin oil and not a stiff enough spring in the carby. The piston lifts up iun the carby too fast and leans out, therefore little to no performance untill the engine catchs up with the carby so to speak and all hell breaks loose and revs up really quick! (But then again I have a whole lot more air being pulled into my engine than yours, so carby is probably nothing to do with it).

my spring is a little too light mate, so ur spot on there, but its always been too light
so it doesnt explain why its dropped off now!

Chris check the rocker clearance. When things bed in they often close up a bit.
This will have the effect of making it more cammy- you will lose power down low.
Graham recommends .016" clearance with stock rockers for the RE13.
For an RE13 running 1.5 rockers, use .018- .019".

Thanks kev, yeah i have stock rockers on there and i have already checked em all, and they are all .016"

I will take it for a drive tomoz, i might just be imagin it all cos ive been driving the sunshine all week....
