Finally up and about a couple of weeks ago after the car accident (car hit me on my push bike) I got about trying to start the van. Needless to say with not much strength yet in the arms I dropped the battery and cracked the damn thing.
A bit long winded but I'm just after a bit of advice on if there is a particular type or brand of battery that stands out at the moment as I haven't bought one for about four years. Any help would be much appreciated.

I prefer Century batteries. They are reliable that last 3-5 years and start every time. They come with a good warranty too :D

If you have lotsa $$$ buy an Optima one.
If you are poorer like the rest of us, best one IMO is an Exide 550CCA. Used on Landcruiser petrol, Ford Falcon etc.
Big W were cheaper than elsewhere.
I have 3 of em, 2 in Minis and one in the AU Fraud. 8)

Bigger and more CCA is better. Buy the biggest that fits....

As the Doc said, Optima are the way to go if you have deep pockets.

The following thread may be useful. 8)

 Funny isn't it. I did a few searches but didn't think of 'what battery' :)
Thanks for the advice. I'll check out the prices.

i got a bond battery, one of the sealed ones. plenty of CCA's, no maintenace, no leaking, no worries. not exactly cheap, but i got mine at trade price a while back :D i think retail was about $120, cos me about $80

i highly recommend it though

I've used Bosch and Century Batteries in the LS, never had a problem with either one and currently have a Bosch fitted in my current daily.

Will it make any difference that I am putting it in the van that has the original generator set-up fitted?

Only that there may not be room there- check space and battery sizes before you buy.

The thing to remember is to get the most CCA that will fit in the battery hole.

do you get supercharge batteries overthere, they are calcium battries and are fantastic i mean a 600cca baatery after 18months still gives 740cca when tested.
the mf55 is the one that fits minis the best and also cheap about $100 with a full 3 year replacement warranty unlike the std 2 year.
