Hi all

I was reading about a grab bag of goodies on a US based group and thought it a good idea.

The way it works is a box of "Mini goodies" is sold to someone for 20 dollars, that person takes out bits they would like and puts back some bits they don't want (only good bits though) and then sells it to the next person for 20 dollars etc etc etc. So basically the only cost to each person is postage to the next person and whatever they put in, although that should be cancelled out by what they have taken out.

I am willing to start it off, before I do though I would like to see if you people want to do it. If response is good I will most likely have something ready to go in a week or two.

Let me know what you think.

Cheers
Steve

I saw that too and thought it sounded a novel way to exchange an item for something that you could use

Sounds like a sweet idea... It would be a good way to trade a few of the carbies, etc that I dont need :) only prob is if someone doesnt really know the value of something and replaces a HIF with a plug lead... :P haha

It sounds great in theory unfortunately I'm too much of a cynic and can see the box going out with some good stuff in it and ending up with 15 hose clamps , a busted fan and 32 fuel pump gaskets after the 3rd person . be great if it worked though .

a few people here already do a similar thing, exchaning parts needed for projects, or just helping others out, but without the $20 starting fee. some people are out to make money, and sometimes its for good causes but most of the time it isnt.
theres always somebody who f's it up by getting greedy.

I thought the same thing as you guys when I first saw it but after following the thread through, seeing how many people it went to and comments on it so far down the line I thought it could work. After all, if it could work in US/Canada it could work here.

I will go with the consensus though, at the moment the cynics are winning :x

Cheers

Is anybody able to post up a link to the thread you're talking about , honestly I'd like it to work and would give it a shot if it was started . Did the other group keep track of what was in the box and post what they'd taken and added ? I'd imagine on here some would protest and call others chea etc for not putting things of enough value in if it was public .

Could the same thing be done in a virtual way by posting a 'virtual box of goodies' (ausmini listing). The person who wants the box, lists what they will replace it with, then when the third list is up the first swap is done.

Possible?

The biggest problem I can see with it is the prices aust post charges for parcels , especially once it get's to the sized box required for this stuff (think of a box with a fem magazines , carbs , manifolds , a wheel etc ) . I'm sure we could work a system of handing it around various places though when people meet up .

If you look at the link that Wombat posted you will see that there was no list kept of the contents.

An idea for coping with large items could be a card/photo/note listing what the item is, whre it is and who has it (with contact details) that was sent in the package. The claimant could then contact the donor and arrange how to get the item.

It looks like it is going to have enough backing to get going, just need to sort out some guidelines to make it easy to operate.

Cheers
Steve
