Depending on what you want with a new head - it's not really cheap.

I bought a 12G295 head for my 998 and got it ported, double valve springs, converted to unleaded, crack tested and oversize valves and I've probably spent close to $1k so far (incl the head) - and I haven't even put it on the car yet!

I would DEFINITELY check out everything else before buying a new head - although you could pick up a 12G202 head heaps cheaper than what I paid for a 12G295 head. (I wanted to be able to say to people I have a modded cooper head on there - but that's just me)

cars at a mechanic at the moment and he'll let me know what I'm up for.

think I'll just get the gasket done and if he wants to get it machined I'll look somewhere else or get something else.

I think its just the gasket though in my uneducated opinion. It didnt overheat for long.

I have a perfectly good 202 head sitting on my garage floor. Its being replaced by a 295 haed as we speak.
You can have it for what ever is a reasonable price less a bit.
Cheers
Matt

Ooops - the plot thickens.

I have a 1100 bare block here in Canberra and 2 x 1100 cranks if you want...price negotiable and even comes with the rods and caps. Will need a rebore to the next oversize(crank and block)and a general clean-up but should be good to go. I also have a bare 12g202 head as well but will need to be cleaned as it is covered in preservative varnish.

PM me if interested

Hooroo

Go get it back.....before the mech pulls the engine and your wallet suddenly becomes empty :!:

Get someone recommended on Ausmini to then come and have a look...if it really is a block problem and push comes to shove, just pull your engine and whack another goer in (I'm sure someone on here will come up with something for you!)

$330 for a fully rebuilt 202 head sounds alright. I paid 370 i think and i supplied the head for a rebuild.

but yeah check everything first as others have said cause if it isnt the head you will still have a dog of a car and a few hundred+ dollars less
