hi, my steeing has started to begain to squeak today. it starts to begain to squeak at full lock. i have heard the same noises in many other old cars, but i carn't find wats causing this problem. it's not a ginding noise but a squeak.
please help.

could be tyres rubbing, have you greased all your steering components? because it only happens at full lock it sounds like your problem could be your tyres. best to have a mate standing outside the car looking for signs on where it may come from aswell.

Would the ball joints create a squeaking sound?

What condition are the wheel bearings in?

Ive had this happen to my car and noticed it would go away when the car had been drive for a little while. Doesn't happen anymore since i redid the wheel bearing and ball joints. Maybe a fluke im not sure.

Is the squeak coming from outside the car or could it be possible that it's coming from inside?

I had a squeak in my car that happened when ever I turned the steering wheel. The earth for the indicators was sqeaking as it rubbed along the collar - a light touch of WD40 and it's all good - no more squeaks.

hi, thanks for the replys, but it is not out side the car. its coming from the steering callor area. it might be the indicators.

BTW - I also found some really fine sand paper worked really well; that's if you don't want your car to smell like WD40 - I did mine over summer and had the window's down anyway.

The emery paper worked well but i could still just hear a squeak.
