ok i was flicking through a miniworld, and saw a flip front, and made me think, this would be easier than fixing my front now,
its had a hit in the front so the front left (standing infront of the car)
isa bit bent, fixable, but alot of welding hours and beating with hammers, it all lies about hal an inch to 1 inch out

what are peoples:

roughly how much would it cost to do a flipfront?

what are the legalities?

thinking steel atm? fibreglass easily available? costly?

is it worth it?

as far as i know, there are 2 reasons for doing a flipfront:

1. it looks cool
2. with a flipfront your engine is VERY easy to work on

you have to strenghten it with a frame so it is still safe: you will probably need an engineer's certificate for this if the car is not already registered.

IMO, yopu are better off repairing the panel in question. but a flipfron has the coolness factor. it has a reading of over 10 mega-fonzies on the cool-ometer

let us no how you go hey coz i want to do this to mine. Im in the same situation, my fronts rather rusted and it would be easier just to cut it off and whack a flip front on

it depends on the degree of rust or damage. if it is irreparable and if you ahve to replace all the panels then why not a flipfront. but if you ahve a dent that can be hammered out and repainted...

tehres alot of work in a flipper, reading collins article in teh how tos,

again it ahs the coolness and teh ease of engine playing advantages, but there is a lot of work with teh rigitidy of the front.

his looks excellet, but not quite rite for sum reason
also he hasent fixed the top anywhere, taht i noticed

which of your minis do you want to put the flippy on?

there is so much work involved, but again with the coolness and easyness factors to play with.

best to talk to someone who already has a flippy.

Think steve has a fibreglass front down there somewhere, would be nice and light for racing...

Check with the rules for whatever class you are going to play in as some don't like flip fronts I think .

I have a fibre front on my race/street legalish car. However its not a flip, its a removable, why on earth would you want to flip it? It would be impossible to carry out gen maintenance, And seems you have to check the oil every couple of days i believe its fairly pointless.

My front is a 2 piece, So you can remove the bonnet on a day-day basis, and if large work is required remove the whole lot. (and if done well, the police and RTA wont even know its made from glass)

Are you able to remove your front on your own? With a flip front you get the same access as a removeable one without having to have two people to 'use' the functionaility.

Main problem JC is that you have the whole bonnet/guards in front of the motor when tilted forwards that you have to work around to get to the distributer , dipstick etc . You need to be either able to remove it quickly and easily by yourself or have the bonnet opening seperately . There's a clubbie GT hiding somewhere in SE Qld that a mate did the panel work on where the guards/stone tray/grill etc hinge forward but are secured by dzeus (spelling???) fasteners and the bonnet hinges like normal but held on with home designed quick release clips . For normal servicing (check oil/water etc or at a servo on a long trip) you just open the bonnet like normal , for anything else it was 4 dzeus fasteners , two pins on the hidden hinges behind the stone tray , trailer plugs for the lights and the clips for the bonnet and the whole of the motor was easily accesible .

Upwards (like turbo orangey's mini I think) would be the way to go , the whole lots out of the way in one easy manouver . Sideways would be alright too but a pain to get to work right
