the only issue is steering when the car is stationary.

you shouldnt be doing this anyway...sorry sean, how are ya?

im personally a big fan of 10's, 12's are ok but i ahvent seen many 13's. if you've got the whells and the car is already prepared for them then why not, but, as stated above, the steering will be lots heavier and it might not feel like a mini anymore.

also, i dont know much about it so dont shoot me :P, but what effect will it have on the speedo? how different is the rolling circumference of whatever it is called?

Troy worked out that my speedo was something like 5 mile out..... but thats probably not just the tyres. He could be wrong. I think Kev was saying to me that its actually not that much difference. But that would depend on the profile of the tyres. or something. I dont know.

Cant find info on 13's but between 10's and 12's theres bugger all difference.
Rim Diam(inches), Size,Tread Width (mm), Outer Diameter (mm), Rim Widths (inches).
10 165/70R10 170 488 3.5 - 6.0
12 165/55R12 170 486 4.5 - 6.0

If you use like 6 or 7x10" wheels, you`ll need to cut too.

Wearing is close to 13"s, depends on how far they come out!
You may have, depending on the wheel`s offset, more wear with 10"s than with some 13"s and vice versa.

So putt on whatever you like! :D
If you want good brakes, much traction - choose 13"s.
If you don`t care about this, take what ever you like ;)

Cheers,
Jan

There should be some difference in the speedo. My O.D. numbers are more like:
10" wheel, 165/70/10 - O.D. = 485mm
12" wheel, 165/60/12 - O.D. = 503mm
13" wheel, 175/50/13 - O.D. = 505mm
That's going off the tyre sizes I've seen advertised around the place... I could be wrong! Regardless, I get that the difference in rolling diameter is less than 5%. It would be 5% less optimistic - it will read lower than it used to, so 95 indicated may really be 100km/h. It's just something you'd need to check and be aware of.
I haven't heard anyone mention Jan's point about wide 10" wheels before, but it makes sense... Can we have further confirmation? I'd guess the main reason for not hearing about it before would be that 7" rims aren't as common in 10" fitments as they are in 13" rims. :?:
Love those Tarox's, too... Still searching for that drooling emoticon!

Very nice photos LS1380, some very nice cars over there! :D
But they don't prove that 13's with tyres are the same rolling diameter as 10's. I've double checked that my calculations aren't out, see here: http://www.tyresave.co.uk/tyresize.html . Try putting in 175/50/R13 compared to 165/70/R10. I didn't use that site last night, I just calculated it - rim diameter + (2 x profile (which is a percentage - so 2x0.7 or 0.5) x width). So, for example, (13 x 25.4) + (2 x 0.5 x 175) = 330.2 + 175 = 505.2mm. That website gives the same numbers.
Photos that prove that 175/50/R13's are the same outside diameter as 10's would be photos with a tape measure draped across each tyre, giving the same dimension, or photos taken from beside stacked tyres. Photos taken from above will have parallax errors. Photos from the side should capture about the same angle of the tyre, and should show differences in size more clearly.
It is just a shame that we can't get 175/45/13's and 165/55/12's - they're within a couple of mm of identical rolling diameter to the 10". Although I doubt there'd be any/much difference in bearing wear, given that's probably more a function of the width of the tyre, not so much the diameter (as mentioned by Jan/Ashphalt), and the ride would be worse.

Was at a tyre shop yesterday. Trying to get tyres for 165/60/R12 wheels, only a few tyres available for those and expesnive (When Yoko A539s are cheap in the UK, more than double the price here! ).

Anyways we contemplated going to 13s. Tyres with similiar (slight larger) rolling diameter or whatever they call it are hard to come by. It's basically go big or go home from what the tyre bloke said. Or go 10inch wheels. But 8.4 discs don't fit under 10s (not the ones I own at least, I know there are some in the UK that do)
