yea well today i was connecting my hand brake up and soon as how long mini jacks take to jack the car up i went to use a different jack to be a bit quicker and well i put it under the car and started jacking the car up and well i got to a certain high and it went bang and the car came down a bit i had a look under and it had gone through the floor pan :( so i had another go and put the jack under the subframe but man i am not real happy and now i have to fix my floor but any way i learnt a lesson

that sucks mate, sorry to hear that. but as always aslong as your alright thats the main thing.
i know a guy who worked at a subaru dealership who had 8 of his fingers cut off while he and a bunch of other people were refitting a gearbox.
did you have a rusty floorpan? if not then just tap it all back down, weld it up etc.

Get into the habit of doing it every time !!!!!

That is jacking the car up - placing it on jack stands - sliding the wheel and tyres under the car (so that if it slips it wont crash all the way to the ground) and then before you do anything - shake the car to see if you can dislodge it.

Any other way is russian roulette and really is flirting with death.

Yep lesson learnt - NEVER Ever trust a jack.

When I was 18 - 3 months after getting my drivers licence my mother went overseas and left me with her new Austin Lancer - had a flat tyre and using the same jack as the Mini I jacked up the car and by the time I turned around to pick up the spare the car came crashing down. The lifting block or what ever it's called had stripped the thread on the centre threaded rod thing - I've been wary of jacks ever since :?

you can watch mechanics who have been at it for 30 or more years jack cars up and then a couple of hours later they fall off and almost kill someone. I seen it like 4 times this year!!

i was jacking my mini up once, using the mini jack in the jaking point. i mustnt ahve put it in right cos the car jumped off the jack. lucky the wheels werent off yet.

i must have been bending over the jack cos the car wanged me in the back of the head on its way down. hurt a little but gave me a frights mostly.

oh, and now i dont know maths....

ok one other thing.. dont have the back end up on jack stands when your trying a new exhaust.. because then you're dad will ask you to start it up to hear it and, you being you, will have left it in 1st gear when you hit the key... needless to say, dad wont be very happy when he's under the car and it happens.. :P it was all good, dad got a fright tho...

I hate being the party pooper but its not funny. His dad was a poofteenth away from being killed. A mini falling on you will kill you - it will crush you dead even with the wheels on.

Its only 12 months since we lost a neigbour to a car falling on him. He was under it and the supports gave way. Blocks of wood actually. Not sawn square blocks, just timber for fire. His wife went into town to buy lunch for both of them. The electricity meter reader found him dead with the car resting on him. Legs sticking out and moments later his wife arrived home with the hamburgers. Twenty minutes later the school bus arrived with his two kids. The police at that stage had not arrived as he was already dead and they had another priority job call so it was still just a pair of legs sticking out.

I told that whole story because safety is just important - as three people have said they were so close to serious injury.

end of sermon.
