Don't laugh, Cooper S were a serious pursuit car back then.
The fuzz reckoned the only quicker way across town was by helicopter. 8)
I know they were good for 106MPH downhill, the cop told me...

Much the same as when they used WRX's in NSW for a while , the only way to catch someone in one is to drive one ...

I remeber it - in fact I was watching it the other day, but no copies are available - yet (watch this space.)

Picture this:
Two V8s turn up at a set of lights (red) and the drivers start egging each other on, revving the cars.

Mini drives up and stops in between the two V8s. Driver (trendy male with georgeous blonde girlfriend) looks to both sides at the revving cars and smiles to himself, begins to day dream....

Shot fades to the starting line at Catalina Park, with the Mini (now its the Roadsafe rally cross Mini) and three V8s on the line. The lights change and the cars roar off, the Mini dives into the front. You then get a good 30 secs or more of rally cross action, and on every corner the Mini is at the back and blasts past the V8s, the big cars go spinning and sliding off the track in every direction. The Mini wins (of course)....

...shot fades back to traffic lights. The lights change and the two V8s roar off, leaving the Mini standing in their dust. The Mini slowly drives off.

(now the other good bit)

Mini driver looks out the window and smiles, a sort of half laugh. Camera shows one of the V8s pulled over on the side of the road being booked - and the Copper is in a Mini Clubman (painted blue and with flashing light on roof, as well).

Shot goes back to the driver, who smiles knowingly to his girlfriend.

Final shot is the Mini cruising along tree-lined avenue with music playing.

Voice over comes on... "With Mini, you don't have to prove a thing".

The End.

Although the Chev more than likely was a straight six in those days.....tapping foot patiently waiting for release of two DVDs.....agree....georgeous blonde :D

Makes me want to ask a pertinent question........maybe only applicable to us older farts on the forum, but........how old was your mini when you first got it???

My first mini was a K....don't know what year it was but this was back in 1974, so I think it was only a couple of years old at the time - this is the one I had a crash with a cement truck  It went to mini heaven years ago now.

I bought my 1961 850 in 1964.
It belonged to the local BMC dealer's mechanic, had been thrashed mercilessly every day, but had twin HS2s and a Sprite muffler. I HAD to have it. :P
Went like poo off a shovel, until the crank broke in 1966.
It then grew to a 1058, then 1220, then 1275cc. 8)
