Does anyone else experience other drivers not being able to notice the front indicators flashing whilst you have the headlights on at night?

The number of times i've almost crashed into someone because they don't LOOK properly (guess their just used to seeing flashing orange) is amazing.

I've also been harrassed by people because they don't think i've indicated.

Yeah, I had the same problem.

I put yellow bulbs in the front indicators of the van. That helped, but it's technically illegal as the parkers aren't supposed to be yellow.

On the Moke and Traveller the parkers are in the headlights, so no problem with yellow bulbs.

I was tempted to put orange bulbs in, but figured it would be even more confusing if i had 2 constantly orange lights.

You could fit H4 headlights and have the parking light inside the headlight (or you could modify the current bucket to take a parking light in the headlight) then you can fit amber blinker globes or lenses.

Exactly what I did.Modified a set of H4 headlights to have the parker inside them and fitted amber lenses.Far more noticeable now when indicating.

meh juz dont worry about it, im guessing this would only happen on a roundnose lol, if someone gets in my way i juz let the klacson rip and they move pretty quick

maybe invest in one of those?

I'd say Mini clear front indicators are just as visible as those stupid clear lenses and orange bulbs that Bling tragics fit to newer cars now. At least they stick out from the car.

40 years ago I painted my 850's front ones Dayglo green, it went well with the Castrol Green paint but the local constabulary was NOT amused... he gave me da big warning.

I've never had an issue.

I just went and tested. My front parkers switch off when the main beam is switched on. Which makes sense, but not sure if this is original, my car was wired customly by me and my dad.

My mates mini has parkers and headlights on at the same time, and when he indicates at night it's barely noticable. Also he was them wired wrong, ones brighter than the other. I told him to swap the wires around....

I'd love to have a go at disabling the parkers when the headlights are on. Any idea how you did it Slinkey? And would it be an easy task for an auto electrical rookie such as myself?

It is not legal to have the parkers off when the headlights are on.
The parking lights must also be on with the headlights.

You need them in case a headlight fails. (give it some thought)

Passed full road worthy the way it is. They preferred it that way.

If the headlights failed I'd switch to parkers. I think I'd rather have visible indicators out of the 100kph roads I live on than parkers on with the headlights.

I do have parkers in my H4 headlights, so the raodworthy people at Regency told me that it would be a good idea to disable the parkers in the indicators but not needed.

<edit> To answer the question above I have a set up with a relay each headlights, and high beam. So I think that has something to do with it.

I haven't noticed any problems driving my mini (they always seemed perfectly noticeable to me!). However, before i was driving the beast, i remember being quite annoyed at other modern cars on several occasions because their indicators were clear coloured.

I personally think they should be orange like they are at the rear.

Theres a whole bunch of newish cars with dodgy indicator setups i think. I don't know who lets them pass the standards. Perhaps i'm one of the dodgies!

Speaking of indicators.. What is also annoying is when people don't use them till the very last moment, or the common "just turning my RHS indicators on now in case my car already physically turning right wasn't visible to you". They're called indicators for a reason... not verifiers!!!

always get people swearing at me, had a teenage girl in a commondoor tailgate me for a couple of ks cos she was that pissed off i stayed at the speed limit which is the best legal way to piss off a hoon especially if u do so through a round about

I can't see the problem with the current front setups - trying to think of what danger they could put you in??? People only see the front when passing or giving way to you, worst case they don't notice that you are turning and waist 5 seconds of their time by not pulling out..

Roundabouts - where you are making a right hand turn around the r'bout - front indicators are essential here as cars coming in the opposite direction and entering the roundabout after you (and so having to give way to you) have no indication that you are about to continue to the right rather than straight. you also look like a dickhead who doesnt indicate when turning right at the lights.
