I'm toying with the idea of getting rid of my Escort Sundowner and getting a mini van.

Is it possible to sleep in a mini van?
Is the load area long enough?

cheers,
Ray.

Yes , maybe , depends on how comfortable you want to be ....

I'll measure the load area later and get back to you . Are you meaning just the occasional time after a party etc (done this several times in a mini sedan , not reccomended but possible) and by yourself or on a camping trip ? One person can sleep in a van semi bunched up but not two withou modification . You could remove the front seats (two wing nuts and bolts per seat) , put them under a tarp outside(or possiblylay them on their side under the dash , might be tight for room though) , make a small false floor to go where the seats were and then you'd have an 8 foot or so long sleeping area . Not exactly the widest between the wheel wells though . The previous owner of my van was thinking of getting a mini van trailer (put doors on the front as well)with a short draw bar and making a vynil cover to fill the gap between the vans rear door and the the front of the trailer and have a longer sleeping area . Doesn't help with the width for two people though .

I Guy i knew had drop down panels attached to the rear doors, open them up, drop down these panels, and you have enough length. Not a lot of room in between the wheel wells as Ian said.

Cheers

Matt

I've toyed with the idea of making a floor to extend to the front of the floor. Remove seats and have a removable floor in there. Never actually given it a go, but will do one day!

I did that in my Moke, took out the passenger seat and slept in there. It was like a tent with suspension.

I'm a short-arse and I find that a van isn't long enough to sleep comfortably, but I have managed to sleep in the back of my sedan but it wasn't the most comfortable thing to do! Reclining front seats are a better bet but the design of the van doesn't let you fold the seats all the way down.

There`s no problem shagging in a mini van, :-) they`re perfect for the job :-)

I used to just turn the front seats around, drivers seat sat nicely against the steering wheel & the passengers seat against the dash & then just throw your excess clothes & stuff onto the area between the tray & the passengers seat to make it a level "Playing field" :-) easy-peasy, there`s plenty of room. Have done it millions of times.

I've slept in the back of my van on a diagonal angle, but it wasn't very comfortable.

I'm 5' 11" , so someone shorter might find it okay.

All I can say is - Good luck! :(

Tried repairing it with a similar sized piano hinge from Bunnings?
