The twist and tape method works Ok while the wire is freshly exposed. In time the copper gets an oxide coating and if the wire is subject to any kind of movement the connection can be lost. Even crimped fittings can suffer from this. Soldering the join excludes the air and minimises the oxidation.

When I add things like relays, I buy my wire from Bias Boating Warehouse. Being for marine use it is multi strand, and tinned. No more black oxide on yer copper... :wink:
It only comes in red or black, but i can live with that. 8)
