Golf Clap ....... One point to Mick :D

but yes , an original Matic of either series is rare as a lot have been converted to manual (nice , unstressed shell normally 8) ) for various reasons .

My 3/70 Mk2 Matic got converted to 1310S power, the 998 Matic motor/box is now in a Blue `76 Clubby somewhere, with hydro suspension and 998 Cooper discs too.
Ping me if ya own it.... 8)

I brought a Mini matic about 9 months ago and its body is in excellent condition, they go cheap but the bodies are usually very good.

In Australia the factory never referred to our Minis as Mk 1 or Mk 2.

I have a Morris Mini Matic (Mini K) that is now converted to manuel. Slidey the wonder Mini.

The so-called Mk2 ` Matic came out more or less with the Mini-K, and shared its trim level and instruments. However, the K had an Oz made 1098 but the Matic still only 998, using imported UK motor and autobox.
The earlier Matics had Mini Deluxe trim and speedo setup.
All Matics got the underbonnet fresh air heater, which BMC says is an essential part of the cooling system.

It is kind of silly that Leyland kept the 998 in the Matic when they had introduced the 1098 Mini K. I wonder why they didn't go with the 1098 Auto motor. (they would have been available as they had just dropped the Morris 1100 Automatic)

A rough Timeline...
Nov 67 BMC released the MiniMatic with a 998 Auto and the Morris 1100 Automatic.
March 68 Leyland takes over BMC
Dec 68 Morris 1100 Automatic is dropped.
Jan 69 Morris 1100S Automatic is released with the 1275 motor.
April 69 Mini Deluxe (998) is replaced by Mini K (1098)
May 69 Morris 1100S (1275) is replaced by the Morris 1300/1500 range.

So when was the Matic discontinued?

From my figures there were
4032 Morris 1100 Automatics
768 Morris 1100S Automatics
??? Morris 1300
??? MiniMatics
Not many in the grand scheme of things!

I bet that there were only about 500 late ones and about 1500 early.
