this has been happening for a while, but here goes.
it takes me about 15 mins to get to school and by that time it is sitting just under the middle temperature mark, well within normal operating temp. theres a stop sign just outside the carpark, and only on some days it will drop below 1000rpm and stall, other days it will be fine. also happens on the way in over the speed humps, so i end up having to throw it into neutral and chuck my feet on the brake and accelerator pedals at the same time, cause i cant heel-toe too well. its a complete lucky dip when i get to school, cause i dont normally have to stop on the way, no stop lights or anything, only a roundabout with not much traffic. i am completely dumbfounded by this so any help will be greatly appreciated, cheers robbie.

sounds like it just needs a proper tune-up and the carb given a good going over

Raise the idle a tad.

And it shouldn't stall below 1000rpm. I can get my car down to 500rpm and it's coughing to stay alive, but will (but the take off is really crap, so I let it idle at around 1000-1100rpm.

I think a good tune up will fix all.

Now I'll mention something else, that only applies to supercharged cars. When I first got my car going it would stall on quick slow down as the idle would dip below 500-ish when you stopped and it would stall, but the idle was set at 1000rpm, so you'd have to tap the throttle a bit for it to raise back up.

After the correct needle and all was found, the problem still existed slightly, but a cure was found. A 'butterfly' with a little valve in it, was used in my carby (these are from green emission model HIFs, not sure exactly which one though) and it would let the idle come down slower when clutch was engaged, and it stopped dipping down to low.

Perhaps maybe the rpm is dropping to fast in your car also?

Go see a mini specialist I reckon.

thanks slink, but it also happens over the speed bumps, and i crawl over them at the best of times, so i slow down heaps before. the idle is set up near 1000rpm.
anyone know of a good mini specialist in western sydney?

i just read a post by slinkey about the breather blocked by 'mayo', this was also the case with mine, could that have caused this?

Nope, oil was flying out my tappet cover breather at 6000rpm with that issue, all fixed now.

<edit> Should say that it had no effect on engine dying or anything. But you should keep those breathers clean, say wash them out after a cold winter, once a year should be fine. A series like to breathe, and some Aseries only have one or two breathers, and when they block the crankcase pressure can get quite high. This of course has nothing to do with your issue, I don't think, I see no relation.
