The only outstanding issue for my blue slip is - the ignition key keeps falling out. I know its because the key/tumbler is worn, but anybody know any handy hints on keeping the sucker from falling out when I am driving?

in the dash or on the column - if it's on the dash, how about cutting a washer in half and put it under the bottom so it mounts at an angle?

It may just be the key itself is worn out.
A freshly cut key may fix the problem.

If not, a new key and tumbler barrel fixes it.
I got mine from Minispares UK but Karcraft has them here, $11.22 +GST.
Or the whole switch barrel and keys for $24.78 +GST.

Take your key off that 1/2 kilo bunch as well...that will help

get your local locksmith to cut your key back to original , this can be done by either them looking at your key or using a code if you have the original

this way its cut like new using correct space and depth
should work 9 out of 10

duplicating your sample will not work as your just tracing over the wornout key

if it that fails you will have to go for dr mini suggestion

Do away with the ignition key and just use a battery isolator and switch (one of those flash missile switches will do nicely). The battery isolator key can be the removable one that you take with you. Doubles as an immobiliser as well.

Doest it need a key actuated ignition? By all means keep the key but does it need to be the thing that works the ignition circuit?

Why not a hidden switch or the like - ah but theres limited security in a moke i guess - no solid locking doors to slow up any potential car-napper.

My other suggestion, as has been offered above, is to get a new key cut, the new key i have in my mini currently hold 10 times better than the original one that is almost worn smooth in places. It might be enough to get you through the check.

I dont have the original key - so this is a cut of a cut of a cut etc

I have an idea which I will try this afternoon - if it works I will describe it - that will save all the "thats a stupid idea' to after its failed

yep - it worked - wrapped the key in masking tape and cutway the knobly bits so it engages the barrel

Correction sorry..... "there is nothing a cable tie cannot fix"

Maybe bend a slight bow in the key ??

Build up a layer of solder onto the back of the key and file it back till the key works and doesn't fall out .
