The same thing is still going on today to make excuses for engines that use more oil than they should. Holdens Gen3 V8 for example. Rediculous oil consumption figures where considered acceptable by the people at Holden for that little master piece!!!!!

It must just be a few engines that were doing it because my dad has owned a couple of Gen III's and a mate owns one and they don't suffer from excess oil comsumption. Probably the same in this case though.

I worked/bulged for BMC/Leyland back when those sevice letters were released,the biggest problem back then was the type of oil that was used/sold to owners.The Dealership that I was at used Castol GTX-do I need to say anymore.
