Sounds like a candidate for a reshell. A second-hand one from Brickworx or maybe even a new Heritage shell if the payout is high enough.

Although it would be easier to just buy something like Lukrer's white Mayfair. There was also a 1990 RSP Cooper for sale recently. Not sure if you would want to go back to carby though.

Yeah. They're probably getting tired of me - third "no-fault" claim in 18 months - they'll probably write it off just to get rid of me :D :D

No problems with them though - I rang them after I got out of the car to get them to call a towtruck for me - we had all the claim processed over the phone before the truck arrived. Shannons: "Have you got the other drivers details?" ... Me: "yeah hang on I'll put him on"  (he actually admitted fault and apologised to them over the phone)

Late model A+ 's with the later SU's are pretty reliable and economic - only problem is trying to find someone in Aus with jets

That's exactly what my Moke is running. 1990 Metro A+ 1275 Auto with HIF4 carb. Got parts for the carby from SU Midel no problems.

Excellent, the wonders of modern tech :) If they cough up the agreed value and you have the salvage too, you might be onto a winner (still sad tho)

Well it's official now - just had a call from the Insurance assessor and he says that she is "uneconomical to repair" :( :(

It's what I was hoping for really. If they were going to fix it, it would probably taken some ridiculous amount of time to finish by the time the parts came from overseas and I doubt if it would have ever driven/handled like a Mini again.

I'm still not sure what I'll do with her now, but at least they didn't declare that it was a structural write-off. So if I decide too take it on as a long term "hobby", I could get her going again without having the hassle of getting it engineered

Things have changed in 40 years :? (not being funny - cause they have) I had a prang when I was 20 very similar circumstances. Driving along minding my own business when a guy with his girlfriend on board does a right hand turn from behind a bus travelling in the opposite direction. He was turning into a driveway on my side of the road. Nearly took the front right off the Mini as he hit more side on. I thought the car was totalled but the insurance repaired it. Took ages though as the other driver changed his story on the claim form for his claim and said I hadn't given way to my right  After a couple of months I was complaining to my brother and it was the only time I ever recall him using his position as CEO of the Australian Stock Exchange to ' pull rank' . The other blokes insurance company was a listed company and my brother rang the CEO and said something that included words like "Public conduct" "Investigation" "Suspension of Trading" - work on the car was authorised the same day

Good luck - I hope it it all works out. Would be a shame to see it scraped though.

I think the biggest change over that time is the cost of labor - or should I say what they charge for labor

Will you be looking for a replacement John, or are there enough in the stable at the moment :) Long term hobby sounds like a few years. I know what you mean about the car never quite feeling the same ever again.
See you soon.

OH no John, I didn't realise when I read the post that it was you, I was in a dream. I guess the driver was too :?

That is terrible about the Mini getting written off. I hope you get the amount you want. Do you get to keep the wreck?

So many questions, I'm just glad you are OK. With so many crashes, that Mini was cursed.

I'll email you later today anyways.

Leigh :(

:) Glad to hear that you are ok but :( to hear that your mini is no more :!: used to see you in your mini often in the morning at the intersection of king and dudley streets melb as i was heading to work at docklands. (thats how i knew i was going to be late!! :D )
Hope you decide on either a re-shell......or just slot all the good stuff into your van??
Steve at brickworx (when i was there) had many a late model shell in good nick, im sure he'd only be quite happy to help you out.
