Ive read the thread on the pulsar dizzy, and I am going to give it a go if I can find one at a wreckers yard. What one would (pulsar) do I need to ask for. Ive got a standard 1275 (1100 S), running twin 1.5 su's at the moment, possibly with a view to putting a weber on it. Would appreciate any help so i can start trying to find one!
Just need to know what to ask for at the wreckers!

Thanks, mooman

You need a D4R85, off an N12 Pulsar manual. Also used on Holden Astra with the Nissan 1.6L motor (same thing).
Or a D4R83 (off an auto) will do if that's all they've got.
Get the coil too, and its wiring to dizzy.

Just leave it unconnected if you have a Weber or Dellorto, but if you are still running a single SU you can connect it to the carb.
Try sucking on it first- sometimes the diaphragms are broken.

i went to a do it yourself wreckers today, and all the pulsar dizzys were taken, except for one I found right up the back of the yard still attached to everything. It is a D4R83, so I took it along with coil leads and plugs. I am going to fit it today. I just need to know what to look out for when fitting the pulsar dizzy, e.g. how do you know your not fitting the dog the wrong way up?

Thanks, steve

P.S The whole lot cost 38 dollars.

Hold the dizzy with the rotor's brass strip pointing at 2.0'clock. The dog is correct if it's drive lug is below the centreline.
This assumes the dizzy's drive gear was fitted right in the first place!

It lines up just like you said, just have to grind or hacksaw that lug to the right shape and hopefully she fires up. On pulling out the mini distributor, it wasnt even clamped in properly cause where the clamp meets the distributor was chipped off, and it had no rubber ring around the shaft  . Would this have been causing it to run a little rough on occassions at idle?

Just fitted the dizzy coil, and plugs, but only get a huge backfire when I turn it over. Do the leads go on a different way with this dizzy? And how do i tell where they are meant to go? What else could be making it backfire like this?

Steve.

You need to advance the dizzy if backfiring, turn it clockwise a bit. Put a timing light on it to be sure. The leads are in a similar spot.

What is the correct order of the leads and ontp teh cap (aswell as which way should the vacuum advance be facing). I think ive become muddled up trying to get it to work right, and cant find an order in the book. Looking at he car front on is is 1(left), 2(top), 4(right) and 3(bottom) as you look at teh distributor cap front on, with teh vacuum advance on the right facing the alternator?

PM sent.
#1 is usually around 1 or 2 o'clock, then going anti clockwise (as the dizzy does) the order is 1, 3, 4, 2.

Ive just located TDC, with number one cylinder up and I can see the white painted stripe on the flywheel. The rotor is pointing at number four cylinder though. Where do I go from here?

Looking at the car front on, with leads on as they should it wasnt working, as the rotor was pointing in the wrong direction. I then fitted the leads so that no.1 was attached to the bottom left (distributor button, and worked around 1,3,4,2 from there in an anticlockwise direction, and she fired up straight away. Does this mean I time it of the number four cylinder?

Thanks, steve.

Hi Mooman,

Sound to me like the dog is on upside down. Did you start counting the cylinders from the radiator end :?: If so the distributor cap should be like this....

3 1
H/T
4 2

If yours are the other way round then you will need to re-fit the dog on the distributor so that the smaller end is on the top. This may not be obvious so I marked mine before I removed it so that I knew I had re-attached it around the other way.

This is an easy mistake to make, I have done it myself. But it is very easy to fix.

Good Luck :D
