ive taken my radiator/fan/fanbelt/alternator/water pump out and i also need to remove my thermostat. ive got it sitting there with no nuts holding it down but it seems really jammed on (corrosion i guess).
i've put trans oil (only lubrication i had) around the three bolts and lightly knocked it with a rubber mallet to try and change it's mind and i've wedged a screw driver from the front side. the front is sitting about 10mm off the head but the back is right on, i cant get around there with a screwdriver. Is there any easy way that i haven't thought of or?

also once i got all this off, whats the best way to flush the block out to get rid of the crap the coolant brings around and leaves?

also also i must have broken the temp sender when i removed the alternator, is there anyway of getting another temp sender that i can just exchange at that end?

also also also there's something i hadn't noticed before was a little block mounted onto the top of the oil filter near the bottom of the block, it has an electrical outting, is this an oil temp sender?

Regarding to the Thermostat housing..you can remore the studs with a thead puller or two nuts lock together..once three are out the thermo will come off...I would then replace the studs and possible the housing.

Flushing out..Chuck the hose in the bottom pipe and turn it on full or in the thermostat hole

Temp sender buy a new one



Never saw a splayed bit on thier but I guess it may be a temp sender

Ya, get the studs out, then replace them with gal bolts.

Is the temp sender elec or the capillery type?

Never seen that think on the oil filter thinga before!

when u say remove the studs, u mean break them from the head?

the temp sender is electric, just making sure u can buy just the temp sender.

ive never seen that on the oil filter housing either. i expect it to be an oil temp.

The terminal on the side of oil filter housing was for a filter light at the top of a Mini Deluxe speedo. If the filter became blocked the switch would operate and the light would come on. Almost useless ! This switch was only fitted to Aust made filter assys.

Just buy a new sensor, you can get em, I got one for my moke a coupla years back.

If theres enough room to get 2 nuts on the studs for the thermostat housing, you'll get them off, eventually!

Last one I took off had been on there that long there was no way the studs would give.
So, I got the angle grinder, a masonry cutting disc and candle wax, then sliced the thermo housing thru from top to bottom, next to each stud. It was corroded to hell anyway.
Managed to save all 3 studs, too!

i just got mine off, sorta in ur style of fashion but with a bit less electrical power
i could open enough to see there was no thermostat in there.. (dont u love previous owners )
so i got the screwdriver and came to it with a few smacks of the soft mallet.
split the thermostat and she came off easy as. it was corroded so bad, need to replace the housing.
all 3 studs are perfect

the fan belt looks to have a fair amount of wear and tear on it.
things to replace now are:
re-cored radiator
thermostat housing
thermostat
hi-flow water pump
fan belt
rear wheel bearing
both side ball joints
LH engine mount (i'll do RH aswell)
radiator fan (currently is the 18 spoke or something type fan, i want to get a better type)
gonna remove the thermofan from outside the passenger side wheel arch gate to inside mounted directly onto the radiator.

the thermo fan would cover the whole side of the radiator, do u guys reckon i can JUST have that and no mechanical fan, hooking the thermofan up to a temperature switch as to remove that annoying mechanical fan sound?
if i mount the thermofan directly onto the radiator i think it will by far do its job spinning at a constant speed where as the mechanical fan is almost useless at idle.
ideas?

If you want a thermo fan, I would fit both.
BTW I have one but never fitted it- no need with my `matic heater in circuit.

well i was gonna fit an auxiallry heater core aswell kev
but i got flamed by all my mates saying it shouldnt need it blah blah blah.. hence im doing all this to the cooling system to get that right first.

u dont reckon the thermo fan can handle it on its own?
