Started to strip my 998 the other day, under the guidance of Aaron and Kev.

Took the head for a trip to 'the good doc' today and we stripped it and gave it an overhaul. Cheers Kev for the guidance and assistance!

The head was OK, but pretty dirty! Here are some before shots:

We took the valves out, cleaned them and cleaned all the carbon off the head, then lapped the valves and reassembled. Here are the after pics:

Not worth doing to a 998 head.... :lol:

Guides were sweet. Valve exhaust seats were a little

but cleaned up OK with some lapping.

It ran OK before taking it off the road. I was shocked at how much carbon and cr@p was in the chambers! :shock:

Shoud go much better now.

It had NO valve stem guides in it at all, partly the reason for all the carbon in there! :lol:

Guidance from me... haha, i can show you how to get them apart, but i only take responsibilty for putting my own stuff back together. Came up a treat though, helps having a nice clean head. I would think that poor JAM was running a little rich when she was running last. The amount of carbon in there was pretty out there.

yes mate, love the before/after action....no mate, no gasket set yet.

Guess what......I might need to borrow that socket AGAIN!! :lol:

for the crank shaft pulley this time :wink:

yea, the 998 will be stock...but the 1098 I build in the side, to install at a later date WON'T BE! :lol:
