your best bet are probably a set of jellybeans. I used to have them on my K with 145's and they sat inside the guards nicely, lots of cars have them without flares

that's if you like the look of them :?

Not sure how wide these are?

According to the tape the tyre still sticks out nearly 1" at the rear with a 165 tyre. Fronts are OK.

miniDave, you've got 165 width tyres... they're a little wider than 145's

Not to mention just up the road too , Matts got them and some standard rims for sale .

I'll stick with the standard steelies for the time being and keep looking , you never know what will turn up and I have a mate watching in the UK as well .

miniDave it looks like you have spacer drums on the rear, if you replace those with flat ones they will be legal. And tyre shouldn't foul the trailing arm, these old jellybeans were made for flat drum Minis.

Jelly beans are 10x4.5. They supposedly fit without flares, however I've found that's not always the case, on some cars even with standard drums they stick out too far. Very puzzling as Performance Superlites will fit fine without flares on standard drums, and they are 10x5.

Depends `which 165s' too. We have 165/70-10 Bridgestones on ours, with spacer drums and S flares. If I took the flares off and fitted flat drums they would still be legal, in NSW anyway (corner of tread inside body line). Not sure about down there in Gestapoland...

Since I have had the car I have never taken the rear wheels off!

There may be spacers there. Interested now - will have to have a look.

There are 2 sorts of drums- the original flat ones used on cars with 3-1/2" wide wheels, and the later ones with built in `spacer'- these are 1" wider. Used on all the cars with 4-1/2" wheels- Cooper S, Clubby S, etc.

Don't forget the intermediate spacer ones fitted to early to mid 70's mokes. They have about 1/2" of spacer.
