you should compare them on the same car,

get a sponsorship deal from a mini place or tyre place and make an article for the mini experience and test out some other types mebbe.

Well my thought was test both sets of tyres on both cars - its a more complete way to do it, as we each know our cars inside out so to speak, but nothing about the other's car!

Sponsorship - that's sensible, and we may even be able to pull it off!

yes but you see the difference in braking, suspension, wheel type, weight balance etc negates the comparison

Well not really.

Driver one tests tyre one on car one, while driver two tests tyre two on car two - drivers take notes.

Drivers then swap - driver two in car one with tyre one etc - drivers take notes.

Tyres get swapped between car one and car two. Now driver one will drive car one with tyre two, while driver two drives car two with tyre one - notes taken.

Then the drivers swap again etc.

This way, all sets of tyres are tested on all cars by both drivers - direct comparisons can be made, e.g. "I tested Josh's car with the Yokohama's, and I thought they gripped better than the Dunlop's, however, on Tricky's car, the Dunlop's performed better probably due to the coil-overs and 2 degree camber" (or whatever...!)

Yea i'm in...would be good to do an article..maybe also to compare 10" tires on a-series cars as well...broader audience, happier tire companies/sponsors. Day at wakefield park to test etc..

Do you think the Cat would be ready before i wear my tires out?

I may even have a cool data logger by then that we can use to record real world numbers such as g-force, lap times etc too ;)

If you go and test some 10s, make sure you give my current fav tyre a go. Dunlop D93J. A comprimise between wet weather, road driving and dry grip all together. Not the ultimate, but a good alround tyre, and with 74+hp atws it requires effort to get them spinning, not slipping, but actually spinning. Unlike the old Mabor crappos, with 50hp atws, taking the clutch off at 2000rpm meant big wheel spin, and terrible take offs at the hillclimb I did. Looking forwards to going back with more power and more grip to see how much better I can, (probably not too much actually!)

Well yes your right, but you also can't compare the power difference. The car not only makes much more power but has a lot more torque down low.

So I think in that regard they are slightly more comparable, but still the Dunlop's are miles in front. They are also far better than the Falken (for 12s, and cheaper!!! But that is due to the rarity now of 165/60/R12 tyres even though they are still plentiful in the UK.... :x ) and still better than Yoko A539s which are a decent wet weather tyre but not a great performance tyre, IMO.
