It ran OK before taking it off the road. I was shocked at how much carbon and cr@p was in the chambers! Shoud go much better now.[/quote]

There is a trick to getting carbon out of motors. Start the engine and set the idle up around 1500/2000 and slowly pour water into the carby and I mean SLOWLY until the motor just starts to stagger a bit. A litre should be heaps. It steam cleans everything and will actually reseat the valves to some extent. They use to call it a taxi cab valve grind.

A variation on this is the `Texas Tuneup'. Slowly pour Redex into the carb as above, then thrash the daylights out of it round the block. Does it work? Dunno, but we convinced ourselves it did back then!

I don't know about the redex tune but the water does work. I've done it prior to pulling a head off and it saved a lot of decarbonising. Pour it to fast though and you lock up the motor obviously.

Back in the 60's-70's water injection was popular. Yes it does work too. Haven't seen kits lately, though.

Seems quite dicey to me! (one slip and hey - hydrostatic lock!!)

Now, when I was a lad, an old mechanic showed me how:

4:1 water + kero in a spray bottle (pinch your mums ironing sprayer).

Air Cleaner off, rev guts out off a hot enging whilst spraying mixture down carby throat - DO NOT stand anywhere behind the vehicle while this is being done (unless you enjoy being covered in black stuff!)
