I want to do Route 66 again but next time in my mini. Maybe for my 40th.

I read a story in Restored Cars magazine a while back, it was a bloke taking a Jowett to England for a car meeting. He had major problems getting everything approved to do it. It took a heck of a lot of paperwork and lots of drama. He wrote the story to help others thinking of doing the same thing.
I will try to dig out the story for you.

I'd be very interested to hear how you go organising the trip and what the costs might be as I'm planning to go to the UK in 2012 for the 50th aviversry of the ADO16 (Morris 1100) cars. It would be great to take one of mine over too if it were feasible.

Wouldn't the cheaper (and easier) way around be to take the 10k you would spend on transport and buy a mini in the UK to drive around for a while, then sell it later for most of it back?
:D

I know it's not your own car, but I would be too worried the car would get damaged in cargo.

I've always wanted to ship a car to the UK (or buy one there) and drive back to Oz overland.

It can be done, plenty of people have done it. It's not cheap though.

Saw today in the paper there is now a Bus tour from London to Sydney overland. About $9K for a ticket.
