Not a mini, but it is British Leyland according to the box...

Can anyone identify this fuel cap, as I said it is British leyland in origin and is rather heavy in make-up, maybe chrome on brass.

The locking mechanism is different to mini locking caps, but operates the same only from the outside inwards. Ring a bell? I thought maybe Austin 1800 or Morris Major or something of the ilk..

According to CPC it fits a Morris 1100/1300/1500, Austin 1800 and probably more.

My 1984 Repco book gives the CPC numbers.
Morris 1100, Morris Marina = SL58 :D

Austin 1800 = SL20 :cry: (this is the same cap as they list for the Mini Clubman)
Morris 1300/1500 = SL59 :cry:

I would have bet that the 1300/1500 and the 1100 had the same cap but the book tells a different story.

Cheers! thanks for the help.

I tried the HYL number on the box, but had no luck, i never thought the number on the base would reveal it's identity.

What is the HYL number?
HYL3693 = Morris 1100, Morris 1300/1500
HYL3959 = Nomad

Don't you love it when parts books conflict!

HYL3693, and I was using my trusted usual technique of googling it, but to no avail.

Current online CPC catalogue lists Austin 1800, Morris 1100/1300/1500 as all using the SL58. However my 2003 catalogue doesn't list anything for the 1800, but does mention the Marina taking the SL58 as well. Who knows...

<edit>Looking at the bottom of the cap, maybe it suits a Morris Minor? CPC reckon the Minor takes an SL72, but it isn't even close.

I've had a look at this cap "in the metal". It looks vaguely Morris 1100 to me in the way it locks.

Remeber those TC Marina's. Now that was a scarey vehicle. A good deal of power in a car that hadled worse than a freshly laid ......
Had forgotten all about those horrible things!
