Ive been looking for a decent book about the ins and outs of my mini.

I have found this book http://www.amazon.co.uk/Complete-Mini-Marques-Models/dp/0947981888

but was hoping for something along the lines of http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/reader/0760312281/ref=sib_dp_pt/202-0373744-1892620#reader-link but this only looks to be about the racing minis.

Any suggestions?

So what type of book are you wanting , something with the history , how to modify , any specific models ? The one regarded as the mini bible for knowledge of the early days is "the Mini Story" by Laurence Pommeroy , foreword by Sir Alec Issigonis . It's been out of print for many years though but is brilliant and is where most of the production , rally and race photo's that are in other mini books come from .

If it's Cooper info you are after I would go for the `Original Mini Cooper and Cooper S ' by John Parnell.

Ah of course, fair point. There seems to be extremes in the Mini world.

I dont want to modfiy it. Its survived in untouched original condition since 1965. If it was a rusty butchered car that needed rebuilding I'd have no hesitation in doing modifications.

I just am looking for a decent book with pictures that shows history, production, etc, and in particular something about the local factory and the Deluxe, fittings, fixtures, colours, trims.

Unfortunately that doesn't exist yet , the closest there is for local content is the mini minor downunder that's often discussed here , everything else is predominantly dealing with UK production .

ah - ok. I thought BMC product was big here in its day. funny how Aust seems to have been missed off the radar in the UK books.

It was but most of the books only deal with the UK production without mentioning Australian , South African , Italian , Spanish and other countries productions . We're not alone in being forgotten

but why would they do that? unless they were covering something up?

you'd think yu'd keep all that stuff in an archive, especially when you know you have a classic icon on your hands

Everything dumped.
Even Heritage in UK have NFI what cars were made here.

There must be someone with the info in a rusty file cabinet in the garage or under the house..? Every little bit helps.

Middle era Citroen sales records (presumes destroyed) came to light about a decade ago - that marques car club have the ledgers digitised in their library. They record new sales and trade-ins for 30,000 odd sales from the Sydney dealers from the mid 1950's to December 1974. So kinda handy.

BMC would understandably be a larger amount as they were made in the city and not just imported. Maybe these gems will surface sooner rather than later.
