Personally I always thought the belt conversions were race and wild street performance only (where you needed the accuracy they give) , with a certain amount of poser value as well (sorry to all that have them ....) , For my money I use a "good" duplex chain set as I want to build the motor and not have to replace a belt in a difficult position every 50,000klm's .

That's 50,000 MILES, if you use a Kevlar one. 8)
Might need a rebuild by then anyway, the way some of us drive...

True , but some of us like to live under the illusion we can behave and make them last longer ...

this is an old topic, but i was searching through anyway...
I just picked up a timing belt coversion kit (ebay  ) for $140-ish... Is this a good deal that i have gotten? I wanted a double row set-up originally, but this seemed to appeal more...
(engine will be a 1380 when its assembled)

Yes it's a good deal, check the sprockets for bruised teeth by ham fisted owners though. File gently if needed.
If it's a vernier one check the dowel location pin and holes carefully. They get butchered easily.
Oh- and I'd buy 2 Kevlar timing belts from www.minimania.com
all the others out there are rubbish now IMO.
