Its a 1275cc head off the austin america (its a smog head) its also found on the sprite/midget. Pretty comparable to the 12G940 - so either way with either head I would still look at modifying it if its to go on a hot 1275.

I don't know how much modification info you will find on the 12G1316 though if you do decide to go with it.

Someone else may have more to add about it modification wise though.

<edit> Should have said, they have the same size valves as the 12G940 as well.

They are as good as or better than a 12G940, for a high power head.
Basically they are just a 12G940 with 4 air holes added to the exhaust porting. Just plug these with 7/16" UNF grubscrews and then treat it like a 940.

"They are thicker around the exhaust ports which allows better port shaping to be carried out". So says Vizard, or words to that effect.
I've used 2 that have been well modified, no problems.
Over here in Oz they were used on the 1275LS, and the late 1275 Mokes.

That's good to hear.

I just put one on my car and was a little embarrassed to say it was a 'smog' head.

Well the smallbore `smog' heads were pretty ordinary inside but even those can be ported effectively, you just need to dig more metal out.

The 1316 though is pretty good, get Mk2 S valves fitted and spend an hour with a die grinder, it's as good or better than a Mk2 S head.

As far as you can with any 940 head.
I have a 1316 on Barney that's got Rimflo inlet valves and Rover unleaded exhaust seats fitted, it's about stage 2.
I have another 1316 going on the 1132 Moke that's about the same spec but with stock exhaust seats.
I have yet another 1316 for the 1412 stroker that's got MK2 S inlets and big ports, Vizarded by me, it's about stage 3.
They also make good race heads, ask GR.

Mine is actually a 1316...
I previously had a 12G202 which was heavily ported with modified combustion chambers. This head is quite mild compared to the 202 but seems to have achieved the same results as far as power output. Oh, and it's an 1132.

:? i thought thye 12g1316 pollution head was comparable to the 12g940 but had slightly smaller valves :?: (cant remember how small) Please by all means correct me if im mistaken!! I dont doubt that they are a "good head" ( .........childish i know but i refuse to grow up!!) and you maybe able to do (modify) the same if not a little more with them than the 12g940.
