I've got a pair of jeans that need taken up, whats the chances?
They look spot on Mick, well impressed with ya sewing efforts. Did you sew the mat down too or is it just placed there? Nothing like the smell of new carpet

The mat's just sitting there for the moment. Took all my efforts to NOT sew it down, but the carpet is after all the prototype. I'll sew it onto the next set.

I've never used a sewing machine before in my life. It really was the easiest thing ever to do, it's easier than changing a manifold gasket for instance. All I can say is give it a go.

Drop round and pick them up if you like tuesday night, I'm going to go get a little more of the carpet from parramatta on Tuesday arvo to re-make the firewall piece. After that I won't need them again till I get back.

I'll send you the address from my work email address tommorrow.

Hi Mick,
Just trying to get this clear in my head.
So did you end up getting the carpet from Qld?or did you decide to stick to the reproduction stuff from sydney?.
I need to look at getting some down the line.are we up for
$790 for the carpet alone from Qld. Thats way more than i was hopeing for.
sorry if this is clear and i havent read it properly.

That's allright Unit,

No, you don't need 10 sq. meters of carpet, Have a look at this photo of a complete set of Cooper carpets laid out aligned with the carpet's grain:

Image
The tiles are 31.5 cm square, it adds up to 5 sq. meters with all the grains aligned.
You can't get Westminster, you get it's modern equivalent which is Tretford carpet(Tretford bought Westminster out).
Same stuff(80 percent goathair), but with a modern PVC backing included for longevity so is 1 or 2 mm thicker, no real drama there. The black carpet which you can see in the photos is a so far unidentified auto upholstery carpet. I got this 2 by 4 meter roll for 20 dollars. If I had 1 roll meter more I could have completed the whole job.

This particular carpet is great in that it is the same thickness as Westminster, is carded (ribbed texture) like the Westminster/ Tretford but is economical and strong. So it's perfect for the average car, and will last as well.
It's also proven to be easily sewable on a domestic machine too!

Have a go, the work is easy, and the result is fantastic. Use a cheap carpet for the first one though. I'll try to get a name and price for this stuff on Tuesday afternoon from Daley's in Parramatta.
I'll even put the dimesions up for the front carpet (as that is the most satisfying one to make) before I leave town this week to get you on your way.

MIck,
I appreciate all the hard work you have done here.
so i get it i need 5 mtrs.
And have you allready got the carpet from Qld?
i need black also but not in a rush to get it.
i would rather get the better carpet that el cheaper.
Try and keep it close to original.
The plans would be great.
thanks

No, I've baulked at the cost for the moment, got a baby on the way and have just bought all the parephenalia which comes with a new apprentice.
My wife actually called up to order the carpet for me, but was dumb struck when he announced he had doubled the price. He doesn't like selling to the public though, usually deals with architectural and interior designers.
Saying this, you can easily get it from Padstow, but it will cost you 120 dollars per meter....
Also...Black is not black, it's charcoal. The only other black has a white fleck through it. Check the site out for an example.

Since I'm going away for the next few months I'm going to wait till later to order it. This stuff will suffice until then.

It really depends on wether you have a MK1 or Mk2 S . All of the Mk2 S had a loop pile carpet sourced from New Zealand , they didnt use the westminster at all . The Mk1 also had loop pile from start of production thru to November 1965 and westminster type from November 1965 thru to late 1968 . The last Mk1's also had loop pile from late 1968 thru to April 1969 .......
