I'm not sure now (they've modified the mini tub too and it's now availible as a 4 door with bits from two mini shells) but when they started in the late 80's it was a ford chassis (not sure which but it was a full chassis) and 4 cyl running gear with the mini body , a big storage trunk to hide the mini boot and some fiberglass panels . Google Beauford and you'll see some clubs and a lot of wedding hire firms with them .

The panel work alone is pretty impressive without even the thought that's gone into making it work but somehow it just doesn't look right .
