hi all,

it has come to my attention that the shell i have does not have a plate on the bulk head with the vin and engine number and as a result i may not be able to get the car registered once the work is complete. is this correct?

i spoke to another guy who said the numbers i have for vin and engine need prefix's before i can get a plate stamped.

am wondering if anyone can help out with what the prefixes would be for these numbers

vin 54215 (this is on the radiator shroud)
10Y CTGH 14131 (this was on the motor before i sold it)

is there anything else i would need for new plates?

incorrect.... you don't need a plate stamped. Plates are only a requirement if the car was produced after the Australian Design Rules came into force. Do the people you've spoken to have any actual authority?

That's a mini K by the engine number, and if it's a '69 model then it would most likely have not had a plate from the factory. The early plates (rivetted to the firewall on the drivers side of the big hole) were deleted when they were released, and not replaced with the ADR plates (rivetted to the right hand end of the crossmember) weren't introduced until early '70. Look for neatly drilled holes in these places, but chances are there aren't any

have a scratch around on the radiator shroud, you ought to find something like YMA2S1 on there as well. Looking at it from underneath with a mirror can work (if the radiator is out). 10YC is your engine number prefix....

The number you'll be looking for is YG2S3 or YG2S1 which will signify if it is a Mini 1100 or 1100 K. As Simon said there were no build/ADR plates fitted for 1969, it appears to have been a gap year, so your car may not have had a plate in the first place. My suggestion would be to go down to rego and tell them this, if they argue tell them that 'Anto said so'
