I have an 850 fairly stock i posted questions asking about mods a few weeks ago the recommendations were extractors / exhaust / carb.

So far i have

1 1/2" SU on manifold (thankyou sports850)
Perry Extractors

I went to the exhaust shop close to my work in QLD, Townsville and they have roughly quoted 300.00 for an exhaust setup for this. Seems a little steep.

Anyone in Townsville that can recommend a good exhaust shop?

What sort of exhaust is best for the mini, the exhaust person started taking shop and i soon realized i was in over my head.

I just want it to sound nice, nothing too loud, i would rather better performance.

$300 is too much

$200 is more like it.

you want an inch and 3/4 pipe and whatever muffler you want, if you want performance then get a straighthrough, if you want it to be quiet get a baffle.

Sounds dear to me. For my 2" system I got 2 pipes cut and bent, a straight through muffler, and 4 clamps for $143. No fitting labour though, I took it home and fitted.
2" is too big for yours but pricing should be similar.

I got my zorst fitted with all clamps and a chrome tip for $180. I think at $300 you will be getting ripped off.

I'm assuming that price (you got quoted) was for a Mild Steel zorst?

Was it hard to put on your self?

I'm assuming its one welded piece until it gets to the extractors connecting pipe? Did you take your mini to them and say i want an exhaust to fit this and they measured it up, or did u take an existing exhaust to them?

I was thinking this option also because the carb will need to be tuned. So once the exhaust is fitted its stuck at the exhaust shop :(

Not sure what kind of steel it is, is there a big difference in the different metals?

I just took my steel RC40 off recently, it's 10 years old and still good. Pipes too.
Most pipes for the last 15 years or so are aluminium coated, they last better than the old ones did.
I don't think SS is worth the extra. There have been probs with SS LCBs cracking too, due to the much higher expansion. :wink:

Have you considered buying an RC40 exhaust from a Mini shop? They are good quality, not too noisy (but noisy enough) and easier to fit. You'll still probably have to get an exhaust shop to weld it to the extractor slip pipe as it probably won't line up perfectly. Probably a better bet than getting the exhaust shop to make it, and certainly cheaper than 300$

Contact Karcraft in Sydney for and an RC40, twin system including all of the pipes from extractors back to the muffler sounds good but not too loud. if you want louder just order the single RC40 muffler. A set of 3 into 1 extractors and an 1 1/2" carby and it will go and sound better. Next step would be to have some work on the head, but probably even better to swap engine for 998 or 1100, which won't need the added expense of disk brakes.
Another tip; If you do decide to buy an RC40 kit ask for the fitting brackets, claps, rubber fitting etc. This will make the job so much easier. Only problem you may have is to match the extractors with the RC40 engine pipe, unless the extractors are made especially to suit the RC40 setup.

can anyone recommend a mini shop. Im in QLD, Townsville.

We have 1 mini guy here that im aware of and he does really good work, but his rare tax is a bit much...
and he doesn't really like just selling parts unless he fits them.

i know rc-40's are supposedly the best for performance, but they are expensive, and i think you can get much the same result from a non imported muffler for far less $

i have heard stainless is loud.. actually i have heard it. :lol:

RC40 single box is around $100 +GST
twin box around $149 +GST.
Both prices from karcraft.

It took me about 20 mins, but hey I'm a fitter/machinist by trade, and have all the gear... :wink:
