This is my mini, which i crashed at a round about in ocean grove last week end.

Image

i was about 3 weeks off getting to a stage i was happy with. i now have a set of 13" rims sitting in the garage waiting for a car to be put on.

The damage from the crash was as follows,

snapped of the front left tire and hub.
body damage to front left panel from gutter.
bent rear huband damage to panel from gutter.
Twisted body (rear doors are 1cm out of allignment)
Smashed rear side window ( force of the crash popped both side windows into the car, one of them broke)

Image

Then i did a stupid thing and left it out during the night as i was no where near home and couldn't contact anyone to tow it at the time

it was trashed by some kids (who will never be found) during the night and this is what happened

Image

Additional damage
Smashed front and passenger windows
Caved in roof
kicked the passenger door handle bending the panel
bent the hood
ransacked the inside(luckily i'd already taken everything i could out of it

The car is now a write off so i'm in the hunt for a new round nose mini, van or otherwise. i figure all i need is a rolling shell as ill just use the engine and wheels that i already have.

Anyway hope this never happens to you as i know how much we all love our mini's and how much time and effort goes into them.

That really sucks , what is it now with people having to destroy things like that . I wouldn't give up on that shell yet though , get a decent panel beater to have a look at it and see if it can be straightened as there's too few vans about to be sending another one to the scrappers .

Hope you had insurance

Mate, that is just terrible. Unfortunately these f**kwits do exist. I'd check with a decent panel beater, see what they can do. But will insurance cough up for it?

Unbelievable

A mate of mine is an ex-panel beater and he reckons straightening a Mini roof is a piece of cake - evidence of which can be seen on the last Mini he did up. So don't write off the shell as scrap prematurely. If you do decide to get another shell you may find there are others who will take yours on.

I do not for the life of me understand why people do such awful things to cars. Minis in particular seem to attract attention.

Well insurance is comp and they will pay for it, so i have enough to get a new mini.

The problem with fixing it is that i don't have the time. but i will give it a go myself. if that fails i'll give it to someone who can fix it on the condition that they show me the car once its on the road again. hopefully i'll be able to fix it then swap engines and subframes and all that over.

The cops were called for the crash and i didnt get charged with anything, seems quite a few people have come unstuck on that particular corner before.

The panel beater quoted me 5 large just for the body repairs so that and the cost of all nes suspension parts ect is why it has been written off. so i figure i could do a decent job myself for about 1.5 then get them to check it all for me once its finished.

so you managed to get all you stereo stuff out before the little F***ers ransacked it?
how can people do this sorta sh** to a car

so how does this work then....you still OWN the van, but the insurance payout gives you enough to buy another car?

I am a firm believer in the philosophy "What goes around, comes around".

One day, I'm sure, these baby thrushes (annoying little c***s) will have something they treasure receive the same treatment. :P

ah i havn't explained what happened have i.

there is a new round about near a shopping centre in ocean grove,

this particular round-about is fine one way then coming back the other way teh entry is the same then it dog legs at the exit. i did not know this as i'm not from the area.

i hit the curb sideways at about 45 - 50 (not really sure on the speed) bounced up over it and came to rest on teh median strip in the middle of the road.

about 20 kids saw it happen and helped me push/carry it off the road and onto the grass out of the way. they also told me that i got air off the curb!

and yes i stripped the car before anyone else had a chance to, took everything that wasn't bolted down and some things that were, including the dash ( for the head unit and aftermarket gauges ) and steering wheel (nice wooden one from autotechnica).

From what i understand from my insurance policy (vintage insurance with GIO for cars that are 32 years or older) is that if the car is written off, i get the pay out and get to keep the car to do with what i wish.
