 Post subject: air vent?

hey,
there is a huge looking airvent pipe from what i think, im not sure thats why im asking, underneath the drivers side part of the dash of my mini leyland van 1978. its been clogged up with rags to seal some time back n it goes out of the mini underneath the right front wheel arch and back into the engine bay near the grill. Any help would be appreciated on what it was originally used for.

Exactly that, it provided fresh air from behind the grill, through the guard and then into the heater on clubmans.

The flexible hose running under the guard would get mangled by road debris and was expensive to replace so many people just blocked them off.

cheers guys so how does it connect to the heater, would there hvae been a pipe that some body ripped out ages ago that was inside the car?

Sure was. It passed accross the top of your feet to the intake on the heater.

tut tut thats a shame for me, only one thing to do and that is replace it all :D becasue teh old pipe is still under the wheel arch but definately needs to be replaced. thanks again guys
