Hi Guys,

My little guy is in need of some new tyres at the moment, and I'm not sure which ones to get. I'm leaning towards a set of Yokohama A539s at the moment. I need 175/45/13 for my wheels. Any other suggestions or advice?

EDIT: I've just looked at the Yokohama website, and it appears that the model I've just named isn't available anymore, is that right?

Thanks.

If you can find a set of them, grab em cause they ain't easy to get now.
A048Rs are better for grip but you'll be lucky to squeeze 15,000 kays from em.
Simes are plentiful from what I've seen, and good all round for the money, but I have no experience on them.
:D

Harley is on the money...SIMES are about your only practical choice...

Dunlop SP9000's would fit..

and Continetal Contisport2's are made and might be able to be imported...

I don't know enough about all the variations being mentioned to be able to make a choice. I know it's not a straight up choice as to 'this one is best' but I suppose tell me which you would go for. I need it just for street use, nothing too taxing. A decent life span would be good. Also, which tyre dealers stock which brands of tyre? Thanks for the help so far.

Sime Astar Prima 175/50R13 is what you want - good all round tire - should be well under $100ea

The A048R mentioned is a full race semi slick - $220 per corner.

Can I get the Simes in a slightly lower profile? I tend to get a little bit of rub with the tyres I have on at the moment (45 profile) so I don't want to go any fatter, if I can help it.

13" tires don't come in a lower profile..

Check what your sidewall says - in a 45series its probably a 195/45R13 which is a wider tire. probably a Dunlop SP9000 in that case...

the 175/50R13 with have about the same rolling diameter.

I've been quoted $140 per tyre fitted for a set of Simes, but if you're right that's a pretty steep price. That's at Blair's Tyres in Cabramatta (recommended by Greg @ Mini Classic). Are there any other places you would recommend in NSW?

Gordon Levin in Emu Plains has a set of A048's, but I don't think I can afford $850+ for a fitted set.

If you think that's steep, dont bother even looking at the Dunlop SP9000's. Awesome tyre but $220 per corner!

I was referring to what MiniMad has said earlier, when he said that the Simes should be under $100 per tyre. That's why I thought $140 for them was steep.

The A048Rs will be about the same as the SP9000's price wise.

Thanks for those numbers, MiniMad, I'll give them a try and see what I can find out.

Alright, well AAA Tyres turned me down flat out and said they haven't got a thing, but Mathews Tyres have offered to do some homework for me and track something down, so I'll update you once they call me back.

Blairs Tyres in Cabramatta said that there are some Simes landing in Australia on the 18th of this month, so I might need to just put my name down for a set of those.

The price on the A048R through Gordon is $245 fitted. Ouch.

I bought my tyre through Bob-Jane. As far as i understand, if it's in Australia, they can get it. Worth a try

Mathews should come back with a good price on the Simes. Seems like tire prices have gone up a bit recently.

I bought my A048R's December Last Year for $220 a corner fitted from Gordon Levin..and i bought Simes under $100 6months before that so it's been over a year and they may have gone up....$140 is a bit rich for what they are. Then again there is far less demand for them so they have to make money somewhere.

I would be trying to get a set of continental contisport2's in. They make them in 175/50R13 and 195/45R13, but don't sell them in Oz - gotta find someone willing to bring in a set.
